Penn State

I've always wanted to go to Penn State but for some reason I never really tried to get excellent grades so I could get in. I've gotten very decent grades all my life until this year. I'm still only a sophomore in high school but need to step up my game ASAP so I can get into college.

I was salutatorian of my 8th grade class & was in GATE (gifted and talented education) I was on the honor roll all throughout middle school.
Freshman year GPA - 3.67 (no IB courses)
Sophomore year 1st semester GPA - 2.17
Current GPA - 3.2
By 2nd semester I should be able to bring it up to 3.67 GPA.
I am also in the Ag/Science Academy. I play waterpolo & I'm on the varsity swim team.
Plan to play for the rest of high school.
Junior & Senior year I have set a goal to have AT LEAST a 4.0 GPA and enroll in IB (International Baccalaureate) courses.
I may join leadership but have not decided.
I predict my SAT/ACT scores to be a little above average.

I am also part of the Performing Arts Magnet Program and will be receiving a certificate or diploma (haven't decided what path I will be taking)

Can someone tell me if I have a shot at Penn? Or any other university.

Right now, no you don’t, if you mean Penn State University Park. (Im using the BubbleChart).
Intentions aren’t good enough, you’ll have to deliver and bring your GPA to at least a 3.7 to offset sophomore year GPA. You don’t need to enroll in IB for Penn State, however a few AP, especially AP Language&Composition + APs connected to your intended major, would be a smart choice.

Thanks for the help but my school doesn’t offer AP since IB & AP are basically the same thing.

If you’re asking if there’s hope, yes, there’s hope. But hope is about as worthless as your predictions about what you’re going to do on the SAT. You’re a sophomore, and you’ve done well academically in the past. These are what you have going for you. Make the most of the time you have left; rediscover that kid who wanted to excel in middle school (no easy kid to be in middle school where mediocrity rules). Come back and see us when you get that SAT score and have improved your GPA even more. Show us that you’ve taken those HL-IB courses and gotten A’s and 6s. Put up the numbers or go to anonymous u. Think of it as your CC challenge, if that helps.

You don’t need the full IB, but you’ll need 3 HL’s with scores of 6 or 7 predicted (at lest a 5). Come back to post then. In order to be a lcok for UP, you need 3.7 + SAT 1900-2000.
