Penn Summer Internships

Okay, I'm a high school senior right now but headed to Penn next year and I was wondering a bit about internship opportunities for the summer after my freshman year and beyond. I work a lifeguarding/swim coaching job right now at the park and will continue that again this summer, but I would really like to get some sort of job/internship that is more geared towards business, as I am going to be a Wharton student.

I realize that any job at all is a good thing right now, but I am just curious as to the opportunities a Penn/Wharton student would have after the first year to get an internship somewhere in Philly, NYC, etc. Does Penn help students secure internships for the summer or anything like that? I know Juniors and Seniors get the most opportunities due to OCR and what not, but is it still possible/practical for a freshman to find an internship after the first year? And are the internships paid?... and if not would it be more beneficial to just come back home and continue as a swim coach or is the experience of a business-related internship worth it?

I apologize in advance if any of this doesn't make any sense... haha, I don't know much about internships but am really curious.

The summer after your freshman year is extremely difficult to find an internship, unless it's a special freshman-targeted deal (usually for URMs). I would highly recommend to plan on returning home. Even the summer after sophomore year is difficult to find internships - most internships only want people after their junior year. Business-related internships usually pay (as opposed to things arts, media, communications or etc related).

If you're really interested in something after freshman year, ask around your family, or close friends, or look for a startup that is just getting off the ground.

oops, double post
