Penn summer programs help admissions?

Hi

does participating in the penn summer science academy heighten chances for admission to penn at all?

some basic info: sat 2290 (m:800, cr700, wr:790), math 2c 790 chem 790
gpa 4.6

no, since pretty much anyone who can afford it gets in.

Depending on how long you were there for, and if your teacher was someone associated with the university, a letter from them may help, but that's all.

so any bonehead can pretty much be admitted?

haha how sad

Penn says that the programs are "self-selective" and that only the best students apply to begin with. Who knows. My son (1500 old SATs, top 2% of his class) went to the summer program, and got a recommendation from his professor afterward. His grandfather had taught at Penn, and his father is also a graduate. But he was rejected by Penn ED. So there are no guarantees. BUT he did have a really wonderful time that summer, and has no regrets. (He made some great friends there.) Maybe the experience helped him where he did get in, and he's happy!

i was in penn's wharton lbw program... i wouldnt have been able to afford it, but they gave me good aid for the program.

i got in after being deferred early.

I_wanna....I suggest you look at the acceptance rates of kids who go to LBW...it is very selective and has been known to considerably help one's chances of getting in

I am going to Penn Summer Science Academy (Physics) this summer. In fact, I did not even to check to see how selective program was. It just looks like a very good program where you can learn a great deal and still have fun in the process, and that's why I'm going. I am a sophomore though, so I still have summers after this one. Since I'm in my school's science research program, between my junior and senior years I'll be working with a mentor. To me, the program at Penn looks like a nice thing to do that leads up to independent research the next summer. People who know about the program have spoken very highly of it, and that's why I will be attending.

I'm sure the programs are very self-selective. Most people who even bother to apply to these programs are smart.
