Penn Summer Session?

Depending on whether my parents and I feel like spending money to dorm, I might take two classes at Penn during the second summer session(or stay at home and take classes at NYU). Is anyone else going to the summer school? Anyone ever attended, or know what it’s like during the summer? Also, how difficult is it to get in, as in, does it fill up quickly with non-Penn students? I guess I’m partly doing it b/c i’m most likely applying for junior transfer to Penn next year, and I want to experience it this summer before I have the chance to possibly spend two years there. Any help would be appreciated.

oh and this isn't for the high school program.

I did summer courses. They're fine. Classes are filled with an interesting mix of ambitious lil' high schoolers and Penn students.

Although the all-star professors are usually gone in the summer (I'm going to be hanging out drinking with my professors in Korea, how cool is that!), the lecturers they have there are still very good (at least the two I had were).

It's a great time, but definitely not as awesome as Penn during the real academic year, so take it with a grain of salt ;-)

I did summer session II last summer at Penn and enjoyed it a lot. While one of my lecturers couldn't really speak English (but she gave an easier curve, so it worked out), the other was great (he was working on his PhD in accounting). I don't believe you will have much trouble getting in as neither of my classes were anywhere near full. If you are willing to pay the money, I would definately recommend it.

I also did it because I was planning to transfer (applied to Wharton for next year as a sophomore). I don't think attending the summer session will help that much in admissions, but I do think it will help you get a better idea of what you like about Penn (at least it did for me), and you can definately talk about it in your "Why Penn?" essay on the application.

thanks guys, that really helped. And yeah dpinmiami, I agree it would really help in the Why Penn/Why do you want to transfer essay. Also, do you think it's difficult to get in, or is it basically send in your transcript and as long as you have a B or above GPA you're ok. Thanks again

I don't think it is that difficult. I applied right out of high school with an A-/B+ average, and I had no problem getting in. One of my classmates in economics had around a 3.0 GPA at NYU, so I don't think they are too selective.
