Okay so i'm a sophmore with a 57 sec. 400m and a 26 sec 200m. i also do cross country where my fastest 5K is 18:45 and mile is 5:30. i do plan on improving those times by my senior year but what do you guys think i need to have in order to be recruited for Penn?

also, to whoever does play a sport, is it extremely time consuming? Thanks

Sub 4:30 for the mile (more like 4:25) and 16 or better for 5K. I'll defer to others for the 400 and 200 times. Check out the current roster and see what high school times are reported for the current athletes. It is a 3 season sport, and takes a lot of time, but the coach is wonderful and it would be a great experience for you.

Bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been recruited for distance, class of 2012. Momofwildchild is right, great coaches!
My PB's
5K (XC) 15:47
2 mile 9:38
3200 9:35
1600 4:27

Good luck, yes you will improve if you keep at it, I did!

^^^^omg those times are beastly.

i feel INCREDIBLY slow now LOL..

Put the miles in over the summer and you will get faster, I was not that fast as a sophmore. If you want it, you will get faster!

To be truly competitive you will need to pick sprints or distance as the training for these events are completely different. Even at the high school level you won't find top 200 meter sprinters successfully competing in the mile and vice versa.

For a male;
400 meter time sub 50 seconds electronic time- not hand held time.
200 meter time low 22 seconds to sub 22 seconds electronic time

^^Okay, those times sound doable. Thanks for the reply fastimes. good luck at penn this year!!!

i'd say for distances to be considered very competitive you need a 4:20 mile, 9:30 2 mile, or 1:55 800 by the end of your junior year..........

^^not for Penn you don't. Maybe for Princeton or a strong non-Ivy program.
