I have recently been admitted into Penn and Berkeley with regents and intend to major in physics. I have also been admitted into Columbia and Cornell; however, I won’t be attending these schools because they are significantly more expensive and I feel I would better fit in at Penn or Cal. I am struggling to choose between the two based primarily on which program would be better for me in terms of getting a PhD in physics later. I understand that Cal physics is world renowned, but the competitor environment and lack of support makes me worry about how I will perform at the school. I understand that the regents scholarship will definitely help me overcome some of the barriers Cal has as a large school, especially course registration. Ultimately, I am wondering which school seems to be a better choice and I will happily provide more information if necessary.
