penn vs. jhu vs. columbia vs. cornell vs. swarthmore

i'm interested in the sciences(bio and chem), especially engineering. However i don't like sciences exclusively, and i still want to take classes in the humanities
i'm planning on going to graduate school...

penn (SEAS), cornell engineering, columbia (college, not engineering), jhu (bme), and swarthmoe

which one do you think provides the best undergraduate experience? (academically [opportunities for scientific research], socially, overall experience...)

any input is appreciated, thanks for your help!

I don’t understand why you would apply to the engineering program at every other school but not at Columbia?

i changed my mind at the last minute… unfortunately
if i would go there i would probably transfer to seas

Well, if social life is most important to you, choose Penn. If more academically inclined, choose Cornell or JHU. If you want a mix, choose Columbia.

For engineering, Cornell is the clear choice. JHU is also good. If biomed is your area, then choose JHU over Cornell.

Be aware that engineering won’t leave as much time for social life as other majors.

i think i pretty much narrowed it down between cornell and columbia… thanks for your help guys!

Cornell has the strongest engineering department on your list. If you are sure that you want to pursue engineering studies and engineering careers, you should definitely go to Cornell. Besides, Cornell offers a very fun/exciting social atmosphere, but it is just that many engineers are just too busy to enjoy this opportunity that Cornell offers. (Cornell is one of the most social schools in the ivies, along with Penn.) GL.

Columbia has a more eclectic/indie feel; much of the social life revolves around NYC.

Cornell has more of a traditional college feel; frats, beer, parties, etc.

It just comes down to personal fit.
