What are the differences? I want to apply to Yale SCEA, but I have a legacy to Penn and I don't know if I should apply ED. I kind of want to aim for HYPSC, but if I have a legacy to Penn should I maximize it?

If it is not your absolute first choice, do not apply ED.

If you were to apply to Penn ED and you got in, will you be able to live with your self wondering if you would have gotten into Yale?

I agree. If you want to do Yale SCEA then you probably shouldn’t do ED anywhere

What is the C in HYPSC? Cornell? Caltech? Columbia?

Isnt it usually HYPSM?

Columbia’s ranking jump may have earned it the legendary acronym. I have also heard Caltech.

^ Penn has been ranked at #4 in US News many more times than Columbia, and it never has had the effect of changing the acronym. “C,” when used, ususally refers to CalTech (as being at the same level as MIT).

God no. Caltech/MIT= yuck.

Yes, I was referring to Columbia. It’s just that I honestly don’t think my stats are good to Yale/Harvard/Princeton/Stanford/Columbia. I’m just an Asian from NJ who has outstanding extracurriculars (not in the CC sense, but to the average high schooler, yes) all As, all APs/Honors courses, good teacher recs, writing abilities, etc… but I’m unhooked and I don’t think I have much of a chance. :

You really never know, but it is the next four years you are thinking about, I wouldn’t apply just for a better shot if I thought I might be happier somewhere else, somewhere I might have gotten in.

I mean I’m applying ED to CAS because I know without a doubt in my mind that if I were offered admission at every school on the planet, whether it be Harvard, Yale, Cambridge, Wisconsin State Technical University, wherever, I would choose to go to Penn. That’s what ED is for.

But if you love Yale, apply SCEA. You will probably (although I don’t REALLY know, but I imagine that you would) still have legacy taken into consideration if you apply RD.

This is turning out really long, but like someone said before, would you be able to live with the “what if I had applied to Harvard, Yale, wherever”, and still be totally content with your decision.

But good luck (and I’m sure that your chances are better than you think).

But to a much lesser degree than with ED, according to both Penn’s stated policy and the actual admission percentages:

[Penn Alumni: Alumni Council on Admissions](http://www.alumni.upenn.edu/aca/legapply.html)

Lmao MIT lost their place in the acronym to Columbia??

Just gonna echo what everyone else said, only apply ED to a school you want to go to more than anywhere else.

No offense, but these threads really offend me. It’s like, naming two completely different colleges, and saying “whats the diff?”.

They are completely different universities, with different campus environments with completely different opportunities. Both are prestigious yes.

But seriously, look at what you’re interested in. What has a better program in it?

If you love Yale, do Yale EA. If you think Penn is the place for you, do it, not because you have Legacy.

According to US News ranking it is
HPYCMS

lmao no one can cheer me up like gugupo, penn’s neighborhood ■■■■■.

If you’re going by US News, it’s actually
HPYCSP

Don’t forget Penn and Stanford are both #5!

;)

don’t try reasoning with gugupo, he’s just here to talk smack and then hide
