No, i think all who have posted are correct. the chances of penn extending to the depths of their waitlist are very slim. I am a waitlister at wharton and have very little hope. There seems to have been one general round of waitlist acceptances that occurred between may 17 and 23rd. Besides those few acceptances, i believe it is safe to assume that penn will only offer late acceptances to students who would fill the spots of those who have already been extended admission. this is unfortunate for us all, those who hold out hope, but it is the veritable realization that comes as a waitlist applicant who has already witnessed the first slew of acceptances. expect at most 5 or 10 more acceptances, total. So, the chances are a true lottery, good luck to all. the process is practically over, let’s use some pragmatist thinking, this is life.

I say don’t give up until final letter sent. Does not mean tho you can’t move on too.

so no-one has gotten rejected yet???

Penn never announced how many people would be taken from the waitlist. Harvard announced they would taken 25 (already done). MIT: 0; Standard: 0; Princeton: 0; Northwest: 7; WUSTL:0. etc. But Penn never announced.

Sorry for the typo, I meant Stanford: 0.

^ We also know that Yale took at least one from its waitlist: our very own–at least for a while–americansushi. :)

When I mentioned the # of people taken from the waitlist, I meant Harvard has taken 25 as they announced. MIT, Princeton, Stanford and WUSTL all announced that they will NOT take anybody from the waitlist this year. Northwest will only take 7 (probably already done), and so on. Rice also announced they are full. But Penn did not announce anything.

Looks Yale has taken more than just “one”. I have seen at least 10 people off the Yale waitlist from internet. In addition, a friend of my son got a phone call from Yale last week. All he did was clicked “YES” when he was waitlisted. He did not sent updates nor any letters to indicate his interest to attend Yale. But Yale called him to ask him if he is still interested. Since so many top Schools (Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, Rice, WUSTL, Northwest etc.) accept none or very small numbers from their waitlists this year, hopefully there are some waitlist activities in the remaining top schools and Penn will be one of them.

^ I am still relying on that logic lol

If many schools haven’t used the waitlist this year, our chances will go down since Penn wouldn’t be losing people who get off the waitlist and enroll at other institutions…No?

I got off the waitlist a little less than 2 weeks ago and went to visit over the weekend because I was deciding between UPenn and UChicago. When I talked to some of the students who worked in the admissions office, they mentioned that I got off at the early end of the waitlist, so they’ll probably admit more off the waitlist later, if that helps.

Thanks Ychinny. That certainly helps.

@WArepresent - what if all cross admitted students committed to other schools (because they didn’t need to use their waitlists) and hence Penn gets to use many students off their waitlist?

Has anyone heard anything after that first round of acceptances off the waitlist? Also, to those people who were accepted, did you choose to attend penn or a different school? Just wondering! Thanks

Below is an email from a regional admission officer. The email was sent 12:13 PM, 5/30/2012:

AHHHHHHHH! where is your region???!!!

I’ve just got my email that Johns Hopkins isn’t using their waitlist. This means Penn is my only hope.

That means I’ll actually find out before I graduate!!! =D

Rejected from Wharton just now

My daughter just received this e-mail regarding the waitlist.

"Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Pennsylvania and remaining on our Wait List for the Class of 2016.

We are retaining a small number of students, including you, on our active Wait List. It is possible that a few spots will become available and we want to continue considering you for admission. We expect to know whether we will extend any additional offers of admission by mid-June.

Sincerely,
