Hello... I am looking for some input on what my chances are for the schools listed below. I know my GPA is on the low side for these schools, but I think my clear upward trend makes my situation not so clear cut. I will chance back. Thank you for any feedback!

Background:
* White male
* Will not apply for any financial aid
* One rec will be amazing / other rec will be pretty good
* Common app essay is good according to my counselor
* Low GPA will partially be explained in counselor letter and my own essay.

Academics:
* GPA: 3.75 UW / 4.1 W
* SAT: Taken multiple times but best single sitting is 2200 (CR 800 / 710 M / 690 W).
* SAT2: 690 US History / 720 Math 2 / 710 Lit (retaking Math 2 and Lit)
* ACT: 36
* Rank: top 20% (school doesn't report rank)
* 11 AP Classes by graduation (Four 5s and two 4s on the APs I have taken so far)

ECs:
1. Student government officer
2. I work full time during the summer at a local business.
3. Sport team captain
4. ~300 hours of community service
5. I head 3 clubs. I'm an officer for 3 other clubs.
6. And more... Don't want to list more to protect my identity.

Once again, any feedback would be great and I will chance back! Thank you!

If your ACT is with writing, you don’t need to submit your SAT or subject tests for many (most?) schools. Check with each, but if it is with writing, Amherst will not need your sat or subject tests. Congrats on the 36!

@GA2012MOM Thank you! However, the 36 is without writing. With writing/english instead of just english, my act comp is a 35. If I apply, I plan on only sending the ACT to amherst and UVA. However, Penn requires you to send all of your testing history so I would have to send my SAT too (along with like a 1900 SAT from around 8th grade/early freshman year).

Lol, they won’t even consider your 1900. Just curious, amherst and wharton are so different, whatt is your reasoning behind the two? Both great schools, just curious (my D is an amherst grad.)

I love the idea of going to a small liberal arts school such as Williams, Bowdoin, or Amherst. If you look at my previous posts, you can see the complete list of schools that I am thinking about. However, I am really interested in business (finance and insurance specifically), which is more of a fit for a school like Wharton or UVA-McIntire.

^statements such as “Its that 3.75 that hurts you a lot” is a prime example why HS students chancing each other is silly. The OP has a 36 ACT with a rigorous schedule, 11 ap’s. That will get him looked at and then the soft factors will come into play. @oberyn, unless you have sat in on committee meetings at Penn, Amherst or UVA, you are not qualified to say his gpa will hurt him “alot.”

@GA2012MOM haha funny. This is common sense talking: half of the people who apply to Harvard with a 2400/4.0 do not get in. How can you expect someone with a 35/3.75 to have good chances at Wharton? A 3.75 stands out (not in a good way) when most applicants have a 3.9+. Btw, you have not sat in on adcom meetings either.

@lacoste The student gov position is finance related as are several of the clubs/club positions. I agree that my GPA is definitely on the low side for Wharton.

@oberyn, my daughter did work in admissions at one of those three schools and now does so at her medschool as well. So while I haven’t personally sat in on committee meetings, I have some knowledge on them from her.
