I am so grateful to have been accepted to both of these schools, but I am having such a hard time choosing. I know that for Business, Wharton is the clear winner (as far as academics/job opportunities), but Olin is ranked pretty high as well… My main issue is the “atmosphere” at each school. I haven’t visited Penn yet, but WUSTL is closer to home, everyone is so so so friendly, and I just feel like it is a much better fit for me. I don’t plan on becoming involved in Greek Life (but plans do change), and I feel like Wash U might have a bit more of a welcoming environment (the food and dorms sound pretty nice too though!).
As far as Penn, I really can’t argue with the amazing internships and research opportunities they offer, but I just don’t know if it’s the right fit… hopefully I’ll get a better idea after Quaker Days.
I would really appreciate any opinions/advice— especially from current/past students of either school!
I understand your feeling for uWSTL but if at all possible go visit Penn. I personally can’t see how you could pass up Wharton but after visiting if you believe you would much more comfortable UWSTL, then that is a fine choice as well.
I agree with @PurpleTitan – Wharton is the clear winner unless there is something about it that you really can’t stand. Penn is a great school, Phila is a great city and you should be just fine.
Wharton. I’m a bit biased bc I’m a Wharton grad myself, but the name opens doors for a long time. I’m happy to answer questions if you have any. Do you have any sense of what you want to do long term? Not that you need to but I’m curious if there is something that stands out about WUSTL besides the distance from home and the perception that it’s a friendlier atmosphere.
@aj725 I’m really not sure what specific career I want to pursue in the future, and I’m still debating whether I have an interest in law school… so I definitely plan on taking advantage of internships! There isn’t one specific thing that I can pinpoint about Wash U— and I know a “feeling” isn’t a very good reason, so I’ve been doing quite a bit of research and I don’t think I can pass up on the opportunity to go to Wharton. And it’s good to see that most people would choose the same!
