Penncap pre-freshmen program

Hi, can anyone tell me if PennCap pre-freshmen program is something my daughter should really try for or what your experiences were with it , thanks

I am a mom of an incoming freshman- my son said he and several others were just talking about this program in a group chat. He said for this particular program it appears you have to be invited to apply for and its more for students that might need extra support for help in achieving academic and social success next year at Penn i.e. its geared towards students who are the first in their families to attend college; income-eligible students; students underrepresented in their field of study; from large urban high schools and small rural communities; and/or athletes.

Looks like a great program and if your daughter fits into any of those groups, I’d think it would be well worth her time! I think its free -you just have to pay spending money and weekend food stuff someone said… the few in the group who were invited to apply were excited about it!! Son said they all are really nice kids applying.

The other pre-orientation programs he thinks are open to anyone and it looks fairly competitive to get a spot …here is the info for those http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/osa/preprog/ My son really wants to do the Penncorp one or Pennacle so he is putting as much effort into those essays as he did for common app essay… lol

He has heard all kinds of positive great feedback about those programs!

My son could use this, but we’re not Pell Grant recipients this year like we were last year, so I guess he wasn’t invited.

@“College dad123"can anyone tell me if PennCap pre-freshmen program is something my daughter should really try”

I strongly recommend this if you are invited. I have heard that it is very helpful to get students off to a solid start.

A freshmen from a nationally ranked high school has an advantage starting college at Penn because they have been competing with Ivy League quality students for years, know exactly what to expect, and how to approach it. However, many students have not had that opportunity. The pre-freshmen program can help them acclimate students to their new environment and prepare them for success.

Sorry, was away Thanks for comment, We are not Pell recipients either. Not sure why DD got invite, but she wants to do it. I believe you can apply even if not invited .

THANKS
