Hey guys, I recently got an email from Penn reminding me of my assigned ID (a substitution for a SSN for internationals). The email said that “A letter containing complete information on creating your PennKey and an associated password is forthcoming.”

Just thought I’d let everyone know.

I got that email too, but i arrived at around 3 AM (EST/ Pennsylvania's time).
I wonder if that letter will be with the campusexpress package.

valecollegorian: you an international student 2?!?!

Yeah, I'm an intl student.

ahhh i got no email!!!! i want my pennkey/penncard/email EVERYTHING!!!! lol

Take it easy, Andy. This email could be only for intl students. But the Pennkey is gonna get to everyone by mail very soon.

Here's the email:
Dear

Below you will find a unique nine-digit identifier (ID) assigned to you
by the University of Pennsylvania.
The University assigns nine-digit IDs to individuals who do not have a
United States Social Security Number (SSN).

XXX-XX-XXXX

You will need this ID to create a username known as a PennKey --
required to log in to a number of critical
electronic services at Penn. A letter containing complete information
on creating your PennKey and an associated
password is forthcoming.

Please retain a copy of this email so you will have this ID available
when you need it.

awww thats cute... i already have a pennkey... and a penncard... soo useful for sneaking into the quad all last year. ahh good times prefroshing

Hey, shortymxpx17. Are u a freshman? If so, how do u get the Pennkey and Penncard at this time?

I'm too dying to receive all the stuff from Penn myself.

It's coming in the mail. Any day now..

I just got my PennKey stuff yesterday. I registered and everything, but is there anything we can do now with our PennKey? When do we get our email? Do we have access to anything now? Thanks

Once you have your pennkey, you can do basically anything on Penn's website... Honestly, you'll use your pennkey about 20 times day once you're at school. You need it to log in to absolutely everything... e-mail, Penn inTouch, Penn Portal, Blackboard, Penn Course Review, Campus Express, etc

However, since most of that stuff is of little consequence to you, at least until you can register for classes and such (you'll start using it more in the next few weeks), about all you'll need it for is to get your e-mail account. Setting up your account varies by school, if you are in the college go here:

If you are in any of the other schools, go to the following link and find the link to your school (sorry I make you go through the extra work... what can I say, I'm biased toward my new College friends :):

http://www.upenn.edu/computing/help/doc/email/school_email.html

ahh upandcomer! im soo jealous! still waiting for mine in the mail...

You have to set up your own email from the link above. You can use your Pennkey to log onto PennInTouch and register for classes, look at class schedules, look at your housing assignments, meal plan options, etc. etc. Penn really is professional with their services. I have been very impressed with how they have everything available to students.

You can also upload a digital picture to your Penncard and look at it on your student account.

upandcomer 22, can u tell us when was it postmarked? r u an intl student?

is your penn key your email address or is it just a login?

You need your Penn Key to make an email. It is like a pin for all Penn-related stuff.

I am in New York. I threw away the envelope, but I have the letter that they sent me with my PennKey Setup Code and my Penn ID. Above my name it says 05/12/2005, but I don't know when the envelope was postmarked. Hope this helps.
