So basically I love Penn, and I don't think I have an amazing shot, but I'm considering ED. I still have time to decide, but my main question is, does going to Penn summer school boost your chances of getting into Penn?

The thing is that, one of my other close friends is also in love with Penn and we almost have the same stats but I feel that she has an edge over me because she attended Penn summer school for a month, last summer. So.. Idk what to do, should I go for summer school this year?

Please helpppp me out! Summer school is like some big thing at my school.. But I don't see it as something SO valuable, you know?

I know quite a few people who did a program at Penn who go here now, but I also know a fair amount of students who were not accepted to Penn when they applied (both ED and RD). It’s what you make of it, but doing the program alone is not a guarantee to get into Penn.

Well, theoretically, if your stats/demographics were identical besides the summer program, she would have the edge. However, there’s the matter of the essay and the recs. Also, you don’t have to have done a summer program at a prestigious university. Colleges just want to see that you did something with your summer.

I did an internship at a hospital this past summer and next summer research at a famous cancer research company… Whereas she’s going to do a 6-week research program at Penn… So… Yeah :P
