hey anyone in Pennsylvania or ppl who know there really well, thanks for reading this post in advance!!

i'm an international student and is currently looking for schools for my new senior year.
just want to ask about a few schools i'm kinda interested in right now, and hope anyone who knows them well could kindly give me some advice or information or even rumor! that would be much appreciated!

The Ellis School (Pittsburgh, PA)

Baldwin School (Bryn Mawr, PA)

The Shipley School (Bryn Mawr, PA)

P.S. if ur post could focus on academic level, hw burden, teaching quality, college acceptance stuff and reputation in the states, that would be AWESOME!

THANK YOU!!

how would you board at any of these schools? Im sure that baldwin and shipley are day only. And going to one of these schools for one year would b really hard. people go from pre-k there- socially its pretty hard to be new, especially for senior year.

I agree with LOLZbabe…How ware you planning to board? I know The Ellis School is an all-girls day school. It has a really great reputation in the city. Academics seem to be rigorous. College acceptances have always impressed me. I’ve actually considered sending my 6 y/o D there when she is done with her current school. I think it’s the best private school in the city.

Thank you all SO MUCH for spending time giving me some advice! Dadprep, especially you, thank you SO MUCH for your useful info about The Ellis School! No need to worry about the boarding problem. The schools are so nice, and they’ve already found pretty ideal host families for me:). I choose to attend The Ellis School eventually, cuz it is definitely an ideal school for me and the ppl there are SUPER nice to me. Dadprep, if you choose to send your little smart girl to Ellis, I might even be able to see her someday:)

LOLZbabe, thank you too for your kind response:) I know it’s gonna be hard for me to fit in their “lifer-system”, but I would like to try and I think it all depends on what I do. Congrats on getting into Lawrenceville! That’s a pretty nice school! I like it so much too! The reason why I choose to apply to day schools is that I want to go to a more American environment. Enjoy ur life in Lawrenceville next yr!

Pittsburgh has 3 or 4 very strong private schools and Ellis is one of them. I know a number of families at Ellis, and they are very happy. It’s a great school. Shipley and Baldwin are also good schools. Philadelphia is a bigger city. Bryn Mawr is beautiful, but you would be in the suburbs. Ellis is about 10-15 min. from downtown Pittsburgh and the cultural areas. It is also walking distance from a community called Shadyside which has a lot of fun shops, coffee places, etc… Pittsburgh is smaller than Philadelphia and is very accessible. It is easy to get around and very welcoming. Good luck!

Thank you so much Chelsea1! You make me feel even better about my new school. I was actually wandering between Baldwin and Ellis for a few days, but it seems like to me that Ellis has better curriculum and more endowment. And the big plus for Ellis is that it is close to CMU, which is one of my first choices. Thank you again for ur kind words!
