People already accepted for Yale Class of 2015??

Ok so today I heard a rumor at my school that a girl was ALREADY accepted to Yale. I was convinced that it could not be true because SCEA isn't even notified until December. Is this girl making it up or is there some other admissions process that I've never heard of?

                  . .

She’s probably a recruited athlete. And the word got spread that she was basically “a lock.” Something like that, perhaps.

NOOOOO FAAAAIIIRRRR AAAAAHHHHH!!
Can’t wait till December! :(

October 1 is the start of when “Likely Letters” can be sent. It’s possible that she has one of these. Or that it’s just a “rumor”.

Are “likely letters” sent to SCEA applicants? I mean, probably not before decision, but afterwards, pending regular decision? Does that make sense? I read something by Jeff Brenzel (?), Director of undergraduate admissions, where he said test scores and grades are most important and then recommendations, with interviews least important. Is this true?

No need to reinvent the wheel, T26E4 did an excellent job of explaining likely letters here (see the Resources sticky thread):

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/yale-university/804816-quick-facts-about-likely-letters.html

I’m pretty sure likely letters have not been sent out yet. In fact, I’m not sure that all the AOs have actually started reading applications.

She’s probably a recruited athlete. We have a recruited athlete at my school who is tentatively accepted at Yale, according to her. I think that even athletes at times can be a little unsure of the admissions process. She didn’t know that Yale was SINGLE choice EA, and was applying to five other EA schools, lol.

Well I know for a fact that she’s not on any sports teams, so maybe it was a likely letter…

^ Or it’s just a rumor. I honestly doubt that she received a likely letter this early in the admissions process.

From the sticky I cited above:

“Highly coveted athletes” receive likely letters starting Oct. 1, but non-athletes don’t receive them starting that early. There’s no need. If they’re already applying early, there’s no need to notify them early, and very unreasonable that they receive likely letters THAT early. Likely letters are more for RD, to ensure that students who might’ve also applied ED2 or EA elsewhere or rolling don’t accept their offers before they officially hear back from Yale.

^^^That’s exactly what the citation says:

Right - just saying that since this girl is not an athlete, she probably did not receive a likely letter. I’m about 98% certain that Yale has not sent likely letters, especially not to non-athletes. So, this story is probably just a rumor.
