How do you feel when you hear of people at your HS applying to the same schools that you are applying to? For me, I picture them getting in and me not getting right away and feel discouraged. How do you guys feel? Also, does it really make a difference how many people from your school apply to a university?

sometimes, some schools will only take a certian # from any one school. Some schools dont care. it just depends

I think half of our graduating class probably goes to 3 or 4 different schools so…

I feel a bit annoyed, actually. A lot of people from my school go to certain schools. BU is one of them. There are other, smaller ones that even more go to. That’s why I put some schools on there that no one applies to. I’m tired of people going to the same schools from my school as each other.

Because of cost, I’ll probably end up going to said schools that others go to. But who knows?

For some strange reason tons of seniors always end up at Sacred Heart University. I’m not applying there, but I can guarantee that someone somewhere in my class will be.

I’m in California. Most of the students end up in the UC system, some in the CSU system.
It’s not a big deal (to me) where other people are applying. Although, I might change my opinion come senior year.

my school is very academically driven. even the lesser achieving students dream of ivy league schools and apply there. which is irritating to others because the more achieving students dream of the same ivy league schools and feel threatened because admissions can be rather unpredictable and what if they pick the lesser achieving student? and with many decently known schools, there is a quota to that specific school. gah @.@

I don’t talk about where I am applying.

^That’s a good thing.

I’ve told people where I’m applying but not which ones I want to get into. A lot of people have their top school. I don’t want to do that. I’ve ceased to have good expectations in pretty much anything, so I don’t want to get my hopes up for something that likely won’t happen.

Although if people insist (and surprisingly, they do) that I answer, I have one default school that I tell everyone.

I say I’m applying to Community College :p…Lying ftw.

I stopped talking to fellow parents (who I consider good friends) about where my DS was applying because one parent in particular got nasty with me about it. My DS is a URM and this parent went on about how unfair it was etc. You get the picture. I wasn’t saying anything about his status in talking about colleges but she just jumped to this huge diatribe about it. So now when asked, I say he hasn’t decided yet (lying). I have since learned this one mom is doing a lot of manipulation of her son’s class so that he for sure can be valedictorian. I feel like telling the other student candidates what they are doing but if her son gets the award, I will have a hard time cheering for him.

I’m applying to a school in a different province, so I don’t have to worry about it.

In my school, if you apply to any school outside of the east coast area chances are no one else is applying. Chances of no one else applying go up if you apply out of country.

Catholic High School —> Catholic Colleges
I’m applying to Fordham and Holy Cross, as are many of my classmates.

In my school (out in the VA boonies), almost everyone (if not everyone) applies solely to VA schools.

Since VA is known for having some great colleges, it’s not really abnormal that that would happen. However, I can be sure of a few things.

-Most of the hardcore Christians are going to Liberty U. (That’s a lot of people).

-There will be plenty applying to JMU. (There were 6 or 7 I knew of last year, probably more I didn’t.)

Some will apply to GMU, ODU, and CNU. A few others will apply to Longwood.

Most of the top 10 (myself included) will be applying to W&M and/or UVA as their top choice(s), with JMU or UMW as their backup.

The majority will either go to CC (many then transfer later) or go directly into the workforce.

That’s pretty much the normal setup at my school. I don’t know of anyone applying OOS.

None of us have really started talking about it yet. We’re just 3 weeks into our senior year, but I’m sure it will be a big topic of discussion in my physics class, given that it’s entirely made up of high achievers, and in English, since we write college essays in there. I don’t think any of us are so competitive that we’d get pushy over who applies to which school, because I haven’t seen that happen in previous years. I do however know one girl, the sal, who’s applying to almost every college I’m applying to (she’s doing all the Ivies, I think, + Northwestern, and probably OSU for safety, so we overlap on OSU and 5 Ivies). and she has some ig deal things like being the Teen Jeopardy champion in her soph. year, 2390 SAT, 36 ACT, etc. that I don’t, plus we are applying for the same major, which is a rather small one. She’s a nice girl and my teammate, but I’m still a bit intimidated.

I only know where she’s applying btw, because her father was talking to my mother. My mother is very, very nosy.

I talk about where I want to go and where I’m applying. I don’t mind doing it because, if someone who gets in over me, usually would deserve it more than me. For example, there’s a girl who’s genius with math. She didn’t know MIT was good for math. I told her about it and such. I’m pretty sure she’s going to apply there now. That’s my dream school, but the way I feel is, is that if MIT can do more with her intelligence and work than mine and she can achieve further than if she were at another school, well then I don’t mind at all.

^^ That’s how I feel with my friends.

I talk about colleges with my friends all the time, but if it’s annoying, cocky classmates I’m talking to, I try not to talk about college.

Almost EVERYONE at my Nebraska school is applying to Northwestern and Washington U in St. Louis. It’s so annoying.

I’m pretty sure most of them think WUSTL is as good as the Ivy League too, from how much they whore it (wearing WUSTL shirts) and how they talk about it.

I think I might retreat to Rice and Vandy.

Kids from my school don’t ever apply out of state. They apply to UAA and UAF, most get into both, and then that’s it.

I’m only applying out of state, so I’m not the least bit worried about competing with my classmates.

LOL at your username. shampoo tastes disgusting and bitter. don’t ask how I know.
