I Plan to do mechanical Engineering

what is the procedure to apply ? .. can i not send my grade 11 marks ? .. can i get in .. if not can you suggest some other universities ?

Probably not.

You have an ok chance at getting in. My experience is that GT focuses less on grades than they do on SAT’s.

thanks …

bump … any one else

thanks …

bump … any one else

Unless we know how your marks translate to the Georgia Tech scale it is hard to say anything about your chances. The marked drop in grades your junior year does not look good though, but assuming your grades translate to at least a 3.8 ish Tech GPA you should be ok.

Bump … any1 actually familiar with the process for CBSE students ?.. chance me

Are there no Indian/people familiar with CBSE grades ? … I am really interested in Ga Tech .

I am not sure why you expect others to be so familiar with this process. Typically, your grades are sent through a verification agency where they will be translated to the GPA scale required by Tech/other US schools, meaning most others (even Indians) are not going to know that much more about how to translate your scores than you currently do, since they didn’t actually have to personally translate their scores. There are various websites that purport to explain the CBSE to US GPA conversion, but they differ markedly indicating to me that there is not one conversion scale that fits all Indian schools (this is probably why there are agencies that handle this matter specifically…). Your school’s college counselor (if you have one) may be able to help you or you can contact GT Admissions directly.

I have noticed that you have a tendency to be dismissive of anyone trying to help you in both this thread and others when you don’t get a response just to your liking. We are not here to perform your college search for you, so any genuine advice you get should be regarded appreciatively since we don’t have to give you any response or any of our time. Most universities make their average admissions statistics and what they look for in applicants readily available, so you can easily look up all of this on your own, and there are numerous free websites to assist you in searching for a school. Get out there and look.

Maybe we just have a difference in culture, but neither I nor anyone else on these forums is your college search servant. You come across as rude and with a sense of entitlement to our time. I am joined by many others on these forums when I say I have been highly successful in the college admissions process, and I’m sure we would all appreciate it if you acted accordingly when dealing with us, or anyone else willing to sacrifice their time to try to help you with their advice.

If you are so interested in Tech, then apply! The average SAT score of the incoming class this year is about a 1390 and the average GPA 3.89. This means your test scores (1400) are average. Your EC’s are probably slightly less than average, and since you can’t provide a US GPA I can’t gauge you on that. I would consider you a Fit for Tech, assuming your GT scaled GPA won’t be too far below the average.

Best of luck, and work on the impression you give off!

1390? That’s a pretty big jump from last year, judging by this:

[Georgia Institute of Technology :: Undergraduate Admission :: Quick Facts](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission)

I agree with what you wrote though… OP doesn’t have much tact.

Yes, 1390 was the number given at FASET this year. Keep in mind that GT had a 20ish% increase in applicants this year, superscores everything, and that it admits many people into a summer program if their scores or gpa don’t match what they are looking for (so they don’t have to include them in the fall freshman statistics), but they still wish to admit that applicant. The site you listed also gives the IQR, not the mean, and as of last year the average for engineering was 1371. [College of Engineering at Georgia Tech](http://www.coe.gatech.edu/about/faag-aca.php) and 1356 for the institution as a whole http://www.irp.gatech.edu/apps/factbook/Fact_Sheet_0209.pdf</a>. It is plausible that the increase in applications combined with the summer admission offer program allowed Tech to effectively eliminate a substantial part of the incoming class that scored lower and would have been admitted in previous years. Since averages are particularly susceptible to outliers even minor to moderate improvements to the bottom of the class can significantly affect the mean. So, 1390 isn’t implausible. But, I agree that it is somewhat suspicious, and I suspect the median and top two quartiles closely mirror previous years.

@InPursuit - First of all , Thanks for all the help. I am really sorry if I come across to you or anyone in this forum as A-Hole (which , I am not ) …

I had another query . Does Ga tech look at the SAT’s out of 1400 (CR and Math) or 2400 ?

Because my GPA aint great !

Thanks and Sorry again.

Georgia Tech claims to use all three components in their decision making process [Georgia Institute of Technology :: Undergraduate Admission :: Freshman Application Review Process](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission) and has started to report some of the SAT numbers in the 2400 format. However, I have heard admissions counselors as recently as this year say that writing is not used. My guess would be that as long as it isn’t extraordinarily low (yours is not) it doesn’t affect your admissions chances, so I wouldn’t worry about that. As I stated before, I would consider you (based on what I currently know) a fit/match for Tech. If you decide you like the school you should definitely apply. How low is “ain’t great”? If it is below a 3.5 or so on the GT scale that will definitely hurt your chances greatly.

US admissions are competitive, however they do value internationals (esp if you can pay). Having said that, they would want to see good scores (marks) of around 80% and above on average.

Not to dissuade you or anything but if you really love GT, apply, but also keep safety schools ready.

thanks a lot for the help.

Does Ga tech have an option of early response ?

Georgia Tech has three application deadlines:

Early Notification (Deadline: October 1; Notification: by November 20)

President’s Scholarship Program (Deadline: November 1; Notification: by December 18) Note: As an international applicant, you are not eligible for the President’s Scholarship, but you may still apply by Nov. 1 to receive notification of an admissions decision by December 18.

Regular Decision (Deadline: January 15; Notification: by March 15)

No one is denied admission during the first two rounds of the application process. Instead, you will either by admitted or deferred to the next round. If you are deferred to the regular decision round, your application will be reviewed again and you will be notified of acceptance, denial, or a summer offer where you must start classes the summer before your first fall term. In some circumstances Georgia Tech also offers a transfer option through Georgia Tech - Savannah and/or other universities where you will spend several years at the offered school before applying to transfer to Tech’s main campus.

Note: It does not help you or harm you to apply early. Georgia Tech’s early notification program is not like early action/early decision programs which typically have higher acceptance rates. Instead, Tech chooses to admit its very top applicants who would definately be admitted during regular decision early and defer all other applications to regular decision.

For more information on admissions you can visit the Admissions website: [Georgia Tech :: Office of Undergraduate Admissions](<a href=“Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission”>Blow the Whistle! (404 error: page not found) | Undergraduate Admission)

Can I apply for Early notification … If I am taking the SAT on October 10 ? (this is for a friend)

Hmm, I am not really sure about that, but I don’t think so. You can apply for the November 1st Cycle using October scores, but you must fill in the appropriate section on your online SAT registration form or on testing day to have your scores sent directly to Tech. The December test administration is the last safe date to take the SAT for regular admission, as January scores may not make it in time.
