People from Berkeley...HELP!

For all you that live in Berkeley, lived in Berkeley, or currently attend Berkeley, I need your honest pinion. How would a white conservative male do there? Please be honest. In addition, I love sports, am very sociable, and love the outdoors. I want a good education at a beautiful location where social aspect is key. Please help me out with any input.

Well, Berkeley is liberal, so it depends on how you can handle it. But then again, 90 percent of all colleges are liberal, so if you insist on being around like-minded people you better get those texas tech and byu apps out.

Don't listen to conor: We have a strong conservative and moderate presence on Campus, though they are subject to some level of harrasment.

If you wanna be politically active, join the Berkeley College Republicans (biggest political club on Campus, and I'll boost for them just because they got guts, and guts are enough) or the Radical Middle. Or, if you wanna check out Democrats -- join the Berkeley College Democrats. Not everyone is liberal, and by no MEANS are colleges liberal -- they, like every other career option, have a cross-section of almost everyone, of course with the appropriate variation.

Sports are ample, whether you wanna just run and lift weights, play raquetball with your buddies, or play sports at the three collegiate levels (IM, Club and Varsity/NCAA). You'll find something to suit you.

Social life: Don't sound like a Co-Op person to me. Have you thought about going Greek? It's a great opportunity to meet people and have a grand old time. Check it out! But remember, your studies do come first.

Outdoors: Tons of stuff to do outdoors, whether it be bumming on Telegraph or hiking in Strawberry Canyon, you're sure to find what you need. It just gets cold and rainy early compared to SoCal, and stays that way for longer, but after it gets done -- it's gorgeous.

Also, check out art and music shows.

...and yes, I am posting alot because I just came off midterms and am in a lull.

I've chilled wit some white conservative males who played softball against our softball team. In the Berkeley Intramurals championships several times.

They seemed to be totally surfer enlightened dude kind of types. Pretty cool guys.

awww andrew, that time of the season eh? and right after the second set of midterms........its finals times........lol

How do you join the College Republicans? I'm so ready...I got my College Republican key chain and I'm ready to pull out my "Friends don't let Friends vote Democrat" t-shirt...hehe (j/k).

sure, there's a cross-section of beliefs, but you're delusional if you don't think that berkeley(and nearly every other major college) has a left of center slant. As for the college republicans, I always hear about how huge their group is, but the only time I ever see them is at their one little table on sproul.

Certainly most college campuses tend to be left of center. It is typical of college students to be "liberal" during their college years. It is part of college life.

In terms of College Republicans at Berkeley, students--both left and right--do admit that the GOPers are one of the most well organized in the nation. This is of course hearsay.

For those interested, BCR is always on Sproul Plaza, typically pretty close to Sather Gate. They're friendly, open to conversation, and never in short supply of THE PATRIOT, the BCR magazine. They also typically have meetings on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, and they're super-nice to new folk.

They're big, sure, but that's because they encompass the entire right, as opposed to the left, which is fragmented into Democrats, Socialists, etc.

I highly suggest that new students check 'em out. Even if you're heavily leftist, you might just learn a few things! ;-)

I will definitely visit. Thanks pookdogg.

Let me quote Churchill:

"Any 20 year-old who isn't a liberal doesn't have a heart, any 40 year old who isn't conservative doesn't have a brain."

Sums it up fairly...

Andrewtdx: Though as a conservative and a fan of Churchill, I must let you know that Churchill never said that. It has often been attributed to Churchill, but he never said that in any of his speechs (including Parliament sessions) and the official archives of Churchill also state that Chruchill never said this.

Remember that Churchill became a cross-bencher briefly, joining the liberals for a period of time.

To sum: Churchill never said it.

Really? Nuts, I'll have to tear off that part of the poster then. Heh.

The first largest club on campus is AAA (Asian American Assoc.). The second largest club is BCR. Go figure.

I'm a conservative. I proudly wore my Bush Cheney sticker on campus around election time. I put Bush Cheney stickers on my door and on my wall. So what?
