Is is just me or are most of the people in this forum are some of the top students out there? I see so many people with 4.0+ GPA and all these crazy extracurriculars. I go to a high school ranked 21st in the nation and most students arn't anything near you guys (we got like 2 people dats 4.5 and 2400 SAT) . Does anyone notice this too?

Im not like that! But I've noticed it too, and that's ok with me! It just makes me want to work harder so that I can at least seem like a well-rounded student.

no, don;t wrry about academics, going to any school will offer you good opportunities, just make sure you take advantage of those opportunities. And remember stats isn;t everything gl!

Yep, folks on this forum are generally no where near "average." Many are uber-over-achievers and many will likely get into top Us & have the resources to pay for them. There are also other folks on CC (& there are undoubtably some folks who make things up on CC as well, as there is no way of "checking" like most internet postings). Truly tho, there are some incredible kids here, including many NMFs & even Presidential Scholar nominees, etc. As momfromtexas shows in a thread she recently started again, your kid doesn't have to have totally uber-stats to get a full-ride at some of the lower-tiered Us. There are about 4000 Us in the US, but many CCers focus on the "top" 100 or so (maybe fewer).

True, but many people on CC still do not get into the colleges of their choice, even though they continuously get good advice from the people here. The college admission process has gotten so tough not because of the colleges, but because of the students themselves. Because of a small group of teens that try insanely hard to get into their college of choice, and the fact that there are so few colleges of choice(due to reputation), you get so many increidible kids.

yes, it's kinda true, but some might lie too (like a saw a thread with 4.0 unweighted and 2400 SAT and all 800 SAT 2, then the poster disappeared forever from there)

but you would expect it, would u? like u go to a car forum u'll see lots of expert about cars and people who know about it. You go to a college forum you would expect to see people who care about their education and go ask questions.

But in reality, there are like 400 people getting 2400 SAT every year. about 10 of them happened to be in this forum isn't too many, right? after all those who got really low grades and gpa are too busy selling drugs or playing sports somewhere else. They don't even have internet to go online.

OP:

Yes, this is an extremely non-representative sample.

As for your high school being ranked 21st, I assume this is the ranking that depends on AP tests taken? I find this ranking ridiculous.

You must mean the Newsweek rankings which are a joke and don't include the top publics or privates in the Country. And 35% of ivy students come from private schools. At top 20 high schools, many kids have phenomenal stats.

I bet that half the people on this forum lie about their grades.

I don't find it too surprising. I mean it's not exactly the normal thing to do to hang out at a college discussion board -- I think it usually takes a certain type of person to do that.

Because top students usually enjoy academics, and therefore enjoy talking about them, and this forum can fulfill that need when their friends usually go "*** why are you so obsessed with GRADES and TEST SCORES and GOOD ECs go get a life!!!!"

Yeah.

Keep in mind also that some of us on the forum aren't even kids but parents who are researching for our kids. :) Our kids are busy having lives, it's us parents who don't. :( <grin></grin>
