People love to complain about college costs

One college had old cheap dorms in a hallway type of situation, and expensive privately-built high security apartments in two bedroom units. A student tour guide said to live in the cheap dorms for at least a year so you make lots of friends. The high security apartments can be socially isolating because people can’t just casually stop in and see you.

Sorry, I have to ask: what exactly is a “high security” apartment?

I can’t answer about that particular school, but I know that in my travels, I have seen various levels of security for the dorms. Some are open to any student during the day, but only residents at night, some are open to just the residents 24/7, and the highest required swiping to get into the main entrance, and swiping again to get into your particular apartment’s wing, then of course to your own apartment. Anyone entering who was not a resident needed to hand their id over to the front desk agent and be personally escorted to an apartment.
