People should really learn a thing or two about college admissions.

^^^I want cs12345 back!!! He could end this brouhaha right now.

I’m not going to repeat myself, lol. Though I don’t understand why everyone, regardless of his/her academic ability, shouldn’t know the acceptance rates of the schools he/she is applying to. And in my original post, I never even said that they were less academically-inclined. A lot of these people were in my AP classes!

:)

cs12345… lol… man those were the days. I had some interesting battles back then.

I really hate the CC mentality that anyone with less than an 1800 SAT or a 3.5 GPA should go to community college.

I hate it too; though, unfortunately, that comment was irrelevant to this thread since no post involved such arrogance.

Thou frustrated, brethren?

at least they’re going to college…

In contrast to the OPs example, I hear in the hallways, “Lol, he only got a 32? (ACT) 32 is like the minimum you should get! Its easy!”

what a stupid thing to be annoyed by

I get annoyed sometimes when people act surprised about something that they already know would happen. Or if they ask questions that they know the answers to. Bad habit I know.

Some people just have poor academic self-esteem. That some people worry about weird intangibles when it comes to college admission even though they seem pretty locked in on gaining admission. That and unless a school has a 100% admit rate, people have a right to be somewhat insecure about their admission.

So, I don’t feel annoyed when people are excited to get into a school that isn’t too good and/or act surprised about acceptance because I can see where they’re coming from, especially if they really like said school.

I just got my first acceptance letter and after I told my parents, I updated my FB status. Lol. You should be annoyed at me. ^_^

I guess if they KNEW they were going to get in, it may be annoying if they kept saying “OMG I totes got in”, but who knows, in their mind they could’ve been worrying that they might get a rejection and it’s just such a relief. Just be happy for them, on the bright side, you don’t have to go to college with them?!

Seriously? Any college that doesn’t have a 100% acceptance rate means that you don’t have a 100% garantee to get into. People with 1500+ SAT scores and 4.0+ GPAs get denied from colleges all the freaking time.

As an underclassmen, I never understood the stress of college admissions. I always saw a student and thought… “You’re worried about getting into College X!? Why!? You’ll definitely get in!” As a senior, I’ve been worried as hell about getting into my state university… just because there’s the possibility that I could get denied!

And nothing is set in stone. One girl at my school already signed to play for a college and she got deferred… Yeah… she should have gotten in… but she didn’t. So. Yes. Even if you think you’re going to get in, it’s possible that you might not. It’s something to be excited about and something to celebrate… Especially if it was a school that you wanted to go to.

For example, I got my USC letter today… most people it was just a college acceptance letter as a back-up… me… it’s my first choice and the only college that I’ve applied to so far. I might not even apply to any other schools, so it was very exciting and I DID post it as my facebook status.

OP is seriously one of the biggest ******s I’ve ever seen. Are you one of those kids that has the biggest house in your middle/upper-middle class town?

I hope I never have the misfortune to meet you.

those are my backup schools :p

Ha… Well… I’m an asian female with a ~3.7 GPA taking challenging classes with a 1500/1600 in SATs and going into engineering. I still was super psyched to get my first acceptance letter from my last choice safety school. Why? Because it meant a new chapter of my life opened. There’s always a chance of failure, so acceptance is a thing to be celebrated. I beat a few thousand people to be accepted… Pretty good ego booster. So showing off is a bit of a must.

LOL!!!

Jozhekryx, it has never been establish whether you’re a ■■■■■ or not yourself,

jk, anyways it is annoying especially when someone gets accepted to a for profit college.

There, redjon said there’s no point since no one sad such arrogant comments, and I intend on changing that,

You’re an @$$hole Lowlife if you get a sub 2300 on SAT’s or a >3.95 GPA!!! How dare you even think you deserve Community college you scurvey miserable wretched dogs!!!

There, i feel better now, :)

bah i’m too lazy to read the past five page, so sorry if i’m hijacking the direction of the thread.

but in a way i agree with the OP. i have friends who go to schools in california who are EXTREMELY bright, like they can do calculus bc just like that from frosh/soph year. they do a small number of extracurriculars, and usually are pretty passionate about what they do (they’re asian, and it’s definitely not the typical bay area competitive public school asian stereotype kind of activities) and are genuinely smart, cool people. but the most they look up to is the UCs, and many of them don’t even consider UCLA to be possible. they’re aiming for places like UCSD max (UCSD has a high 30s acceptance rate, which was low 40s until very recently) i know ucsd is a great school, and i’ll probably apply there in the future too, but there is so much more beyond ucsd that they can aim for. i know it’s not as much as an 80% acceptance rate and the caliber of the students im talking about is different, but in a way I sympathize with the OP. if my friends took the time to research for themselves then they’d realize there are schools with better med programs or engineering programs that they really could get into, etc.

i also feel better now :)
