I actually understand what the OP is saying. A lot of my friends (none of whom are dummies) post excited statuses about getting accepted to state schools that I never even heard of until I went to public school. But like other people said, I think the excitement comes from realizing that the whole going-to-college thing is for real. That’s a big deal and something to be proud of no matter where you’re going.

Also, ASU isn’t exactly a s****y school. Sure, it’s not super selective, but it’s still a pretty cool place to know you may be attending in a year (I have a guy friend out there who says the social scene is UH-mazing).

What’s funny is that I’m a first generation college student whose family makes <30K per year, and I live in a very average Airzona suburb. So, no, sorry.

When I reread my initial post, I still don’t understand how people get that impression of me. Nowhere have I said that ASU/NAU are bad schools, that these people shouldn’t celebrate, or that I’m in any way “better” than these students.

This was my point, essentially. People should research the schools they apply to, and that’s it.

That was my point: people should KNOW whether they’ll be accepted before they apply. And it does affect me, as I previously mentioned, in that multiple times people have asked me, “omg will I get into ASU?” And I’m like "uhh, well look at the requirements and answer the question yourself!

I never intended to hate on these students or the schools they were accepted to. I’m actually applying to ASU myself as a safety.

That literally never happens to me haha, but it would annoy me. Literally 95% of my HS’s grads either go to the local CSU (like 85% acceptance rate) or JC. So glad I’m getting out of this self-righteously conservative town.
