People to People "Summit"

Would attending one of these look good on an HYPS app? Would it be like a hook?

BUMP Me up

How would you present it? An extracurricular? A life changing event? What?

I don't know what others think, but I don't think its much of a hook. I don't consider vacations to be ECs... although they may broaden your views or enrich your life. I have been all around the world but didn't put it down on my applications. Maybe in an essay you could discuss what you learned from it or something... I encorporated this into my essays. I know quite a few kids that have done this and it doesn't seem like much more then a vacation- so that's what I view it as... vacation much be the wrong word as that implies relaxing on a beach, so maybe I should term it a journey or a trip instead. I don't know... I've been to some pretty impoverished countries and done some amazing things, but I wouldn't ever list it as a distinction or EC but I do consider it something that has shaped the person I have become.

Summed up pretty well ^^^

J to the Erod

So you don't think just going (if I don't make a big deal out of it in essays and stuff) would be very impressive? I've heard colleges don't really give any weight to something where almost anyone with the money can get in and go... I guess this is one of those...

bumumumump

I don't, but how do you feel? I wouldn't do it to impress colleges but if you want to go on a trip, do it. When I looked into it I wasn't happy with the boarding situation for what you pay. I don't want to be staying in a hostel when I'm paying enough to stay in a 4/5 star resort... also, I didn't like the structure of the particular trip that I was looking at.

Good luck.
