People to People

Yeah so I got this invitation .. and well, do you guys think it's worth it?
and around how much does it cost?

Very expensive. Check the website.
People report having a good time.
Lacks prestige as admission is non competitive. Basically you pay and you go.

Many kids have enjoyed it -- especially those who have not had the opportunity to travel outside the US. cost -- somewhere in the neighborhood of $5000+, the fundraising won't help much -- you have to organize it and they also tell you to write all your relatives and beg for money.

It isn't going to help on college applications -- but few programs will.

If you are interested in international travel, there are many, many good programs out there -- all expensive, but don't get stuck on People to People just because they sent you a "nomination". Check out Where There Be Dragons : Home and Putney Student Travel Homepage for two excellent possibilities

Go on a foreign exchange if you're willing to spend a year away.
I went to Europe for a year and went to a German school. It was a $1600 plane ticket (so expensive because it was open-ended) and a $500 program fee. Plus other expenses, but you'd have those expenses at home too.
Plus, we had a Europe tour for 18 days (Prague, Vienna, Venice, Florence, Piza, Milan, Monaco, Nice, Lyon, Paris, Brussels) for about $1200 and a Germany tour for 10 days (Hamburg, Berlin, Dresden, Erfurt/Weimar/Buchenwald concentration camp, Munich) for about $750. Both of these were optional. I got to do all this for a year and it was much more bang for the buck..and learning German from scratch was pretty awesome too :) I was trying to raise money in 9th grade to go with People to People, but it was just too expensive. I've never doubted my decision to go on exchange for a minute.

i depends which people to people event. is it a future leaders summit or an ambassador program. ambassador programs are around 5,000+ and the future leaders summits are around 2295+ if u want to go though dont worry about prestigis. do what u want

I went on the China program- 3 weeks- over $5,000. It's not selective, but it was a lot of fun and and you get the opportunity to do things that you normally wouldn't get to do as an average tourist. I would definitely go again if I had the chance.
