People to People

What's the deal with this program? Has anyone participated in it? If so, what did you think?

I just got a letter from them about going to travel and study in Australia and New Zealand. It sounds amazing, but very expensive as well. I tried to look up the cost on their site, but all they said was that it depends on the program. Anyone know how expensive one of the past programs was?

Thanks for any info.

I heard it was a marketing scam.

It's not a marketing scam, I have seen them in action. Nonetheless, they are as expensive.

I've been getting letters from them for about four years now. I've never really looked any further into it. I believe it is a real thing though. Its supposed to be a good program.

expensive and definitely not worth it. Someone told me to check their IRS 990(not sure about this) form(the tax form for non-profit organizations) and that about five people in org take up about more 75% of the money.

Some of my friends have gone to Australia/New Zealand with this program and all of them say it's a good experience, though yes, it's very expensive.

Do you really get high school/college credit for doing it?

no, you dont get any credit fot it.....

they're really expensive and very structured when you're on it- picture mass herding of kids from one activity to another. You could spend much less $ and probably have a better time if you went with family or a couple friends, but if that's not an option then people to people is a great way to get to go to places.

I've had two friends who've gone on it- One went to France and London one year, then New Zealand the next. The other went to New Zealand the first year, and all over Europe last month. Both said they wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. The first had to save up all her money for it, which is why she stopped. But the second girl said it was amazing, she loved it, gave her great oppurtunities, etc. She's also studying German and was looking forward to going to Germany to learn more about it and speak the language there. She couldn't talk about it without a big smile, which is a big deal for her. It really is an incredible experience.
