People who do well in CR?

I just finished a Critical Reading section of 24 questions, checked my answers with about 11 minutes left, graded it, and got one wrong. I was really stuck between two choices on two of the questions, and I was unsure about the answer for two more problems. I got all of those right. However, the one I got wrong was one that I answered very quickly and checked over without really justifying myself. It was one that could be right, even though it looked kind of odd. When I reviewed the question after I graded myself, the correct answer was obvious. I realized that I do this a lot: I usually don’t miss the ones I am truly stuck on because I spend a while trying to come up with evidence from the story, but I always make stupid mistakes. Make sure you justify yourself by using evidence from the story for every answer, and consider every answer choice carefully even if you think you have found the answer. I had the time to do this, but I didn’t think I could have gotten it wrong so I didn’t look over it thoroughly enough.

Also, I wouldn’t read the passage too quickly. I did the section that I just talked about on my computer, so I didn’t mark it up or anything, and I read it carefully without looking at the questions first (and I’m a very slow reader). Because I allowed myself to absorb the passages pretty slowly, I was able to answer the questions fairly quickly.
