People who go to CSU & UNLV: Can I get accepted if I don't take language classes?

I didn’t have the chance to take online classes because of my course load throughout HS and my HS advisors weren’t giving me the proper classes. I’m in senior year now. Both CSU & UNLV say that it’s required to have 2 credits in a FL, but I’ve heard of people somehow getting past that. Should I take block* classes and get the two credits over the summer before applying to college? Those who attend, or previously attended, are CSU or UNLV picky about required credits? Would it be a dealbreaker if I didn’t have those credits?

*Block courses are full-credit classes taken in one semester, as opposed to half credit semester classes.

Thanks in advance

You need to contact the admissions offices directly, and ask about this.

UNLV is one of the worst flagships in the country so I assume you’d be okay there. CSU s on the other hand are pretty inflexible, although you may get in with deficiencies at some less selective ones.
What’s your SAT score and GPA? What’s your budget for college?

No foreign language would be ok only in exceptional circumstances.

If CSU’s are California Cal States then many of the competitive CSU’s are going to expect you to complete all the a-g course requirements and many expect above the minimum so you will be competing with the applicants that 3 years of a Foreign Language. CSU’s will accept American Sign Language to fulfill the requirement or you could take 2 semesters of a FL at a community college which would be equal to 2 years HS FL.

Another option:
WAIVER OF “LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH” REQUIREMENT

If you can demonstrate competency in a language other than English that is equivalent to or higher than that expected of students who have completed two years of language other than English study, you may be allowed a waiver for this language requirement. For further information, contact the CSU campuses to which you are applying.

Which CSU’s are you targeting? The non-impacted campuses may be more wiling to consider your application with the Foreign Language deficiency: Channel Islands, Stanislaus, East Bay, Bakersfield and Dominguez Hills.
