People who got in SCEA - Are you applying elsewhere?

You got in. Are you applying anywhere else???

and for what reason, if so?

money? Just want more choices? other?

Just curious.

Yeah I'm applying to others. I had to submit my UC apps on November 30, and by the time I got admitted SCEA I had finished my other applications. So I just figured that I'd give myself more options, since I had already done all the work.

I have apps in to 10 other schools. I really didn't think I had much of a shot at Stanford, so I made sure to have everything else in.

It's easily my first choice and now I feel like I wasted a lot of money in app fees, but it does give me a chance to at least compare financial aid packages.

I applied to 4 UC schools (LA, Irvine, Berkeley, and San Diego), USC and Harvey Mudd, but all of that doesn't really seem to matter too much now. I just have to wait for my financial aid package before I make my final decision. I honestly didn't think I would get into Stanford so I applied to so many other places in order to have options. If I could I would un-apply to UCLA and UC San Diego.

Yep Yep, mostly money reasons.

Princeton, Duke, WashU, UChicago, and Harvard.

SCEA really scratched a lot of colleges from my list.

seems like most of the people who got in didn't really think they had much of a shot. it's the people who honestly thought they had a good shot that didn't get in.

^ ...maybe they sounded too arrogant?..

If you are sure that a college that has already accepted you dominates some of the other colleges to which you have applied, you can send a letter/email/whatever to withdraw your applications to those other colleges. That doesn't get your application fee back, but that is a courtesy to the admission offices and to other applicants who really want to get into those colleges.

I applied to the same UCs as Metallica2289 because, to be honest, I really didn't think I'd get into Stanford. But now that I'm in, I've sent my "thank-you-but-no-thank-you"letters to the UCs, and I'm not applying/have not applied anywhere else.

token, what if our application is not complete? For example, I just have teacher recs sitting some places. Do I still have to withdraw? Thanks.

You should as a courtesy.

nngmm, i had the same thoughts as you did. a lot of the people that got rejected seemed to be very arrogant and full of themselves and didn't know when to quit complaining.

i have apps into duke, usc, ucla, and berkeley. i'm not filling out any additional apps, and i'm probably withdrawing the ones the are already in. i think i'm going to enroll today..! =X

You're seeing them on the board here, where tons of students are rejoicing about their acceptance, so those who weren't accepted are going to seem bitter, leading to arrogance. I doubt that's how they'd come across on their applications.

I actually just submitted more applications today. Since I don't have an official financial aid offer I'm still applying to all my schools (except safeties) which means more essays! = ( I want to go to Stanford, but I know that life changes so i want to play it safe.

I am approaching it with the mentality that I'm applying to college, but I have safety. A Very VERY VERY nice safety. ; )

i agree that people who got in didnt think they would - i actually planned out my winter break full of college apps and told my friends i wouldnt be able to do as much hanging out as i wanted... luckily... things turned out differently!

I'm applying to a few schools on the east coast just in case i have a sudden change of heart in terms of where i want to be... chances are though... california here i come :)

just Harvard... but I'm still considering Johns Hopkins... and I only have two more days to make a decision!

I had about 13 schools on my list beforehand (statistically speaking, I wasn't as likely to get rejected to ALL 13!), including 4 UCs, which were turned in before SECA decisions were announced. Now, I'm just sitting back and enjoying my break without worrying about applications. SECA saved me sooo much time, stress, and money! ^_^
