People who have been accepted to SUNY at Stony Brook

I'm interested in the school,
What were your grades during highschool?
SAT score?
EC's?
People who thought their scores were too low and miraculously got in?

Got in as a Biology major.
High school - 90.22 / 100 weighted, 4 honors and 2 ap’s.
SAT - 530R 730M 660W
A lot of EC’s
Good essay

You kind of seem over-qualified…, or is it harder to get in with different majors?

Sciences/Engineering (which are one of Stony’s more highly ranked programs) are harder to get in.

SAT/ACT: 1850 / 28
EC’s: A hell of alot =P

Any good ECs you recommend guys?

People do say quality over quantity. So try to stay dedicated to a few things rather than jumping around here and there.

Some of my ECs include

Volunteer at Hospital
Volunteer at Korean Community Services (KCS)
worked part time at a supermarket and a florist
played instruments for church -drums and guitar
had leadership positions such as youth group president, praise team leader
was in school’s varsity volleyball team, varsity track
active member at schools national honor society, helped out in blood drives, college fairs, parent teacher conference nights, etc
school leader in which we do service for school gym teachers
oh and i was also vice president of school korean club and representative of breakdance club

that’s all i can think of for now, but yeah. it can range from anything to hospitals, libraries, fire stations, to tutoring. if you can, try to do something that relates to your future preferences. if you want to be a doctor and major in biology, why not give your local hospital a try, or have a free ride in the ambulance?

Good luck in your future!

Thanks fartman lol

NO. Not ALL AP courses. Just the ones that will benefit or interest you the most. So if you hate literature, but scored well on SAT reading and writing, then don’t take AP Literature or Composition if you have other options, as you can only get AP credit for one of the two DEC-A’s.
