What has been your experience with this? My daughter is currently a Junior. Our EFC has been between $15k and $16k.

I have filed the FAFSA and since my son is going to be a freshman next year, her EFC now comes out to $8300 and his is $8600.00.

Is there a chance her school will miraculously come up with the extra money? Her need based aid has remained the same. It is composed or loans and grants. No merit money. It has not gone up at all, altough the cost of attendance has and every year our need is met a little bit less. Should I send them a letter asking them to review her package? My son has applied and been accepted at her school, so they have all my paperwork too but I am not sure they will automatically give her more money.

Have your older kids received better packages in subsequent years under these circumstances?

Your D's school will increase her grant and/or loan amount, depending on how they meet "full" need, assuming it's a full need school.

When #2 enrolled in college (#1 was a senior in college), #1's school increased his grant by $500. Unless your student's school meets full need, your increase may not be very much. A lot depends on the school. Even though #1's EFC was half, that's it.

Yikes, that is not good news. They are not a full need school. She already has $28,000 in debt. They are difficult to deal with. They wanted me to file another profile EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE RECEIVED A PROFILE THAT I FILED FOR MY SON!! I could not believe it!! I am sending them a letter ASAP.

You have to file finaid application forms separately for EACH child. I'd complete those forms for your daughter ASAP. Your school will better be able to respond to your need if you get that done.

Oh. the FAFSA is already done. But I never had to do the profile for her after the first year. It's not required for any year after the first. I can't see the reasoning of needing it again, but I guess if I have to I will. But first I am going to photocopy the one that was sent for my son and send that, with her info written on it. Why should they require the profile again if they never had required it before?

If a school requires the Profile for freshman year, they typically want it again if your financial circumstances change. Adding another college student to the mix changes your financial situation...so does something like loss of someone's income or a death of a parent. In those cases, the finaid department will reconsider your financial aid, but they may want the same forms as for your initial consideration. That sounds like what your school wants (and it's what we had to do as well...no Profile renewal until the second kid was enrolling in college).

So even though I have sent the same exact info to the same school for my son, who is a first year prospective student, they still need me to spend another $25.00 to send the profile again?
