As I layed out my schedule for junior year, I ended up having around 5 AP classes. They are:
1)Advanced Topics (Math) I [not REALLY an AP class..]
2)AP Stats
3)AP Eng
4)AP Gov
5)AP Physics C

For Physics, I have never taken Physics I before. Since I am taking BC Calc online right now, I am planning to take Physics C next year (maybe with some summer school).

Question to people who takes around 4 AP classes similar to mine:
How challenging is it? Do you really spend lots of time doing HW and projects? How much time are you able to spare? How hard is it to control your GPA (since there are so many classes to study for)?

I am a mid A student with weight, and a low A student without weight. I wouldn't say that I'm a genius, but I'm not an idiot either.
Also, I am doubling up in science and math courses.
(Physics C, H Chem and AP Stat, Topics I)

Please tell me your (or your friends') experiences!
Thanks.

im taking 5 this year and find it to be extremely reasonable, and that I have tons of time to do other things. it depends how you work and stressed you get; i choose not to do text readings and rather focus my energy and effort on graded assignments and worry about the textbook the night before tests. I feel it would be impossible to go through and do ALL the work with so many classes. I have about an hour or two of hw a night, as it varies

that, and my school gives us "unweighted" GPAs that include 10 pts for an AP class... (so basically were getting a weighted gpa bonus, but our school doesnt mention it to colleges to help us get into better ones)

I really dont reccomend you take AP physics before at least some intro to physics. most people that have had a full year of physics still struggle and do poorly in AP physics. it is haaaarrrrd

AP Govt
AP Lang+Comp
AP Psych
AP Stats
(and Latin 5 which should be AP , but isnt because i made latin 4 ap from last year)

"Question to people who takes around 4 AP classes similar to mine:"
How challenging is it?

Not very.

Do you really spend lots of time doing HW and projects?

No.

How much time are you able to spare?

Never work on schoolwork at home.

How hard is it to control your GPA (since there are so many classes to study for)?

Quite easy, with 4 APs....you get major grade inflation...my gpa when i finished junior year last year was a 3.55, now i have a 4.04 for my current senior gpa (my cumulative is like a 3.61 or something)

oh my goodness you take Latin 5?! can you speak latin? latin 2 right now for me is pretty challenging
And how challenging is AP Govt? What do you do? so far, I don't know anyone who took AP Govt so I have no idea what to expect.

Oh, and please consider that I have a full schedule (No study halls)

Once you throw physics in there, you're world changes lol.

I'm taking 5 (Art History, Art Studio, Literature, Physics, Calc AB) this year, and it's completely manageable. Actually, I think I spend less time doing work at home than I've done in all three previous years of high school (but maybe that's because I'm a senior).

All I do at home is look at what I have to do, take my books out of my bookcase...and then resolve to do it the next morning. I don't study much at home anymore.

I usually have about 6-7 hours of free time (6-midnight - I don't fall asleep that well) from the time I get home from track until I feel like sleeping. It's wonderful.

Though, I must add, my average did drop a (miniscule) amount this year (.3% - most of my grades were in the low to mid 90s...except AH, which was an 86 for the semester), but my one non-AP class (religion) helped keep me up (98 for the semester).

yes, i do take Latin 5. i have an A+ in that class

"can you speak latin?"

conversation-wise? no. (keep in mind its no longer a vernacular) i can read it fluently though. (its easy)

"And how challenging is AP Govt?"

Not very. I'm an EXTREMELY political person, so it's a joke class. (A average)

"What do you do?"

look at the constitution, debate the merits of checks and balances, seperation of powers, political ideologies, political parties, voter trends, political efficacy, civil liberties, voting, campaigning, economics, supreme court cases, current events, etc

Thanks, firewalk.
To those who are applying to college -
I'm taking german 3 right now and I plan to drop it next year because it brings my gpa down significantly. This and the end of latin abled me to add extra science and math courses. ( I planned a full schedule with 4~5 AP's) Do you know if colleges will let me go for this(since I'm not going to be a language major)? Do they look at middle school 8th grade language as one year (so total for me is 3 years of german)? I also took two years of Latin. How will colleges see these things?

"Do you know if colleges will let me go for this(since I'm not going to be a language major)?"

You will have 3 years of german and 2 years of latin, totaling 5 years of foreign language...plenty. So dont worry about any foreign language requirements.

"Do they look at middle school 8th grade language as one year (so total for me is 3 years of german)?"

Well, its a seperate section on your transcript, so theyll know you took German 1 in 8th grade, which does count. Just like my Latin 1 in 8th grade counted.

"I also took two years of Latin. How will colleges see these things?"

Youll be just fine, I think youre overanalyzing yourself. So quit worrying.

Don't forget that at some schools, ap classes may be extremely easy, while at others, they can be absolute nightmares. It all varies depending on the school.

"Don't forget that at some schools, ap classes may be extremely easy, while at others, they can be absolute nightmares. It all varies depending on the school."

By the end of this year I will have taken 10 AP Tests.

To be honest, Physics C is really nothing like Calc BC in my opinion. I find physics much more equation and concept based, which I would recommend that you take a course geared to AP Physics C or study the hell out of a good review book. Just my 2 cents.

*Edit- AP Physics C is the first Physics class I have ever taken, it does take time to get used to it, it is very different from Calc

I'm in AP Bio, Calc AB, Chem, Lang, and US.

We get no homework in US, minimal work in bio and chem, more work in lang, and, well, calc is easy for me. And my teachers... well, they aren't the hardest. :P

The trick is to take courses in areas that interest you so that you won't hate yourself for having to put in extra time into something you hate. For example, I hate physics, so I would never take the AP since I would hate putting time into the class (I also hate the teacher).

There is a joke my freshman math teacher made up:
"AP calc AB is called AB because you get As and Bs in that class, and BC's called that because you get Bs and Cs."

Would colleges frown upon me if I take AP Euro and AP Econ instead of a fourth year of science? I hate science and would like to avoid it. I plan to major Econ, IR or Polisci.
