one of them is Richard Epstein. he mostly he talks about things that mostly go over my head. but here's him talking about obama (i do not want to make this political - i just picked this because it would be more understandable and entertaining to anyone who listens then some other stuff).

Richard Epstein on Barack Obama, his former Chicago Law Colleague - YouTube

and here are some of the amusing youtube comments i collected :p

My lord. Epstein is simply enthralling - listen to the flow of his exposition - calm but brisk, simple but eloquent. I cannot imagine the energy required to power his brain...

What an intellectual tiger.

Epstein is an intellectual force of nature

Richard Epstein is one of the most interesting and brilliant speakers i have ever heard. I have long been a fan of his and I am constantly in awe of his amazing oratory style and substance. I could listen to him debate every day. I sure wish he was given more exposure by the major media.

Haha, Richard Epstein is a robot.

Is it me or is Richard Epstein a Robot who was created to destroy Leftists for fun?

who else possesses good speaking ability?

have you seen the vihart videos on youtube? they are awesome and mathematical!

Simply beautiful stuff. Having the ability to speak is a very valuable tool (something that I’m trying to develop!).

That being said, I find some of the TED talk speakers to be extremely compelling. The topics are interesting and the speakers are often very accomplished people. My favorite talk is “How to get rid of a dictator” or something like that.

Words are incredibly powerful. There are some authors that I follow that have the ability to craft sentences that are so simple yet so powerful that they stick in my mind for days to come.

Examples are “The Kite Runner”, The Great and Terrible Beauty series (call it chick lit or whatever, but the author’s style is lovely), and some fanfiction. ( “Memento Mori” and “Prehistoric” come to mind).

oh yeah i saw one once. it was cool. and she has a calming voice. i don’t really know if i’m too much of a fan of videos where things get drawn in sped up time in general though.

you shall burn in the fiery depths of hell for what you just said

inspiring speech or passionate speech is interesting too. it’s a bit of a different ability than argumentative speech.

They are all different techniques. I have this book on public speaking, which I admittedly need to get to reading soon and it goes in depth how different types of speech can be used effectively in different situations. It sounds a tad creepy, but there are some very good points there.

Inspiring speech, IMO is very demagogic and general. Listen to Obama- he sounds great and inspiring, but he hardly ever says anything of substance. (This is coming from a liberal).

For argumentative speech, there needs to be some substance and usually a basic logical pattern. I’ve given speeches before where people “just didn’t get it” because I made it too complicated. That’s why I think before prepping a speech, it’s important to think of your audience and write accordingly.

I don’t have good speaking ability. I get nervous when I speak to an audience. I stutter and shake. Then right after I finish a presentation/speech, I go to the bathroom to urinate because I get too nervous.

whoa that sounds like the response of an animal. i have a fear response too with public speaking.

to clarify, by good speaking ability i mean like speaking by people which inspires reactions like ‘what an intellectual force of nature’. really i’m interested in the speaking potential of the brightest humans. richard epstein is my candidate for being one of those humans.

Seth MacFarlane. I have been developing a newscaster(similar to MacFarlane’s)voice but rarely use it when I make speeches.

@ecouter11: What’s the title of the book you’re reading?

I’ve been in so many musicals and events where I have to speak (or sing) in front of hundreds of people that whenever I’m with a group of people at an event or something, I’m the one automatically volunteered to speak. Gets a bit annoying, but I’m used to it… :)
