Pepperdine Class of 2022 Regular Decision

@EnchantedScholar WTH. I got rejected by all the schools I thought I was able to get in. Also rejected at UCD. And if you don’t mind, what is your stats?

For those who got rejected - I am so sorry. :frowning: As for your stats, some of you have good stats, so I wonder if it was the rigor of your schedule or your essays. I know Pepperdine has a very holistic approach. That being said, maybe the state schools will rank you higher and you’ll get accepted. I have no idea - I am just speculating. I do know that private schools and state schools look for different qualities in their applicants. Good luck. I hope you all get some good new soon.

I thought my essays were solid.Very competitive school and have taken 10 AP classes during HS. Played varsity sports and lots of volunteer hours. No class rank. GPA isn’t the highest though. 3.6

@JaqueBear I thought I had a pretty good chance at Pepperdine too, but I guess not! I just checked UCSD and was rejected, but was waitlisted at UCSC. Didn’t apply to UCD though

They actually accept more than 800, there are 800 spot and they anticipate for many accepted to not take the offer

I still haven’t gotten an email what does that even mean

To answer your question, 4,867 admitted last year. Here are the admissions stats from 2017
https://seaver.pepperdine.edu/admission/fast-facts/

That is an enormous discrepancy and it makes no sense. Why would they say 800 at all? Even the fact that over 1000 were enrolled isn’t that close to 800.

Accepted!! Honestly I really liked my essays and think they were the deciding factor.
OOS, 4.67W, 3.94UW, 30 ACT, 8 APs, pretty good ECs

Does anyone familiar with the spring term accepted?
I was accepted to spring term and confused with it…

Would you guys go to Pepperdine or CAL POLY-SLO? ( both bio major)

I visited cal poly and was not impressed with their science program at all! Pepperdine has a great science program so I would for sure choose pepp! Although if money is a factor Cal poly is wayyyy cheaper! Either would be fine though  @KhaoSoiii

For those of you who are confused about why you were rejected, I feel for you guys. I have been there. Perhaps I can offer some explanation.

These are my stats: 3.9 UW, 4.35 W, AP and IB classes, 1450 SAT. I was accepted.

One thing to keep in mind is that private schools operate differently than public schools. Private colleges place a much higher priority on their acceptance rate, and guard it like it’s gold. Knowing this, they want to accept people who they think will actually sign the dotted line and attend. Take a look at calischolar5’s case. His stats are better than mine, yet he got waitlisted. This is likely because Pepperdine anticipated him getting accepted into more elite, and, therefore, desirable schools, and would trade Pepperdine for one of those. This makes his application a risky one to take. It’s similar to how a person can be “overqualified” for a job position. My dad had a hard time finding a lower end one because the companies he sought for figured he would take the next job that pays higher the split second it became available.

Another possibility is the “fit” aspect of evaluation. They ask themselves if the applicant’s personality would fit in at the school’s environment. Pepperdine is known for being a more conservative, Christian college. If you are more progressive, and you were being completely open and honest in your essays, that part of your personality surely showed itself in your application. Of course, I don’t know anything about how you guys are, so i can’t know for sure if this applies to you. If you think it does, maybe you can find a bit of encouragement! Spending four years in a place you’ll end up hating isn’t exactly appealing.

I applied with an essay that explicitly states Pepperdine as my #1 choice. Despite my high SAT score, it seems I was convincing enough for them to take the risk and offer me admission. However, I got waitlisted at Chapman, probably because they thought I wouldn’t fit in with their culture.

Hang in there, everyone!

Accepted for spring 2019!! Very happy as I was expecting a flat rejection. Is there an accepted students fb page yet?

DD just got accepted!! So excited! Ran varsity cross country and track for 4 years. She fell in love with the school on the track weekend in January.

GPA- W:4.41 UW 4.0.
