Hi! I was recently accepted to Pepperdine and I will be attending in the fall. I live in Texas and UT was one of my top choices. The Greek Life at UT is huge and living in Texas, I know a lot about each sorority and its reputation. But, going to Pepperdine from Texas I don't even know one person or anything about the Greek Life and Sororities' reputations. If someone could give me rush details (like if we need pictures, recs, etc.) and other sorority info that would be awesome!! Thanks so much!

Hey there!

Congratulations on your acceptance to Pepperdine! I’m not Greek, but a lot of my friends are and I do plan on rushing as a sophomore this fall. About 30% of the student body goes Greek. Greek life at Pepperdine is more low key than in Texas. One of my suitemates this year was from Austin and she attested to this. As you may already know, we don’t have houses. Recs are not required for recruitment, though you may elect to submit them. The sororities offered are Kappa Kappa Gamma, Delta Gamma, Delta Delta Delta, Alpha Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Pi Beta Phi and Gamma Phi Beta.

Please let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll answer to the best of my knowledge.

I second what gwu_girl said. I went Greek this year (fraternity though) and the pledge process pales in comparison to other schools where drinking and hazing are not closely monitored like they are here. For sororities…I don’t know how it is in Texas, but sorority pledges are basically treated like royalty by the actives.

this might sound like a dumb question, but without frat and sorority physical houses to socialize, where do you have your activities?

activities such as what? that’s a very broad statement

I’m currently in a fraternity on campus and we definitely find easy ways of “socializing”. Most upperclassmen live off campus in houses or condos. Almost all greek activities happen off campus or in hollywood/LA etc

I dug up this old thread in my search to learn more about greek life at Pepperdine.

I know stereotypes don’t mean much and we have to socialize with each group, but I am still curious as to what the stereotypes are for each sorority. So if someone could comment on all of the fraternity stereotypes, that would be much appreciated. :)

I’ll be as politically correct as possible with these “stereotypes,” as I’m not a fan of stereotypes in general. Also, please take them with a grain of salt. Each sorority has a wonderful group of girls and a lot to offer and there are also members of each that break the stereotypes!

Kappa Kappa Gamma: Probably one of the most (if not the most) “popular,” sought after sorority. The “rich blonde” type. I don’t mean that in a bad way, because every kappa I met was incredibly sweet.

Delta Gamma: Southern belle, conservative vibe. They are a bit more diverse than kappa, but with a comparable reputation. They have their partiers but I also know some that didn’t like to party. They all seem really outgoing and fun.

Pi Beta Phi: Reputation for being more christian and “innocent.” Also a good reputation, maybe not AS sought after as Kappa and DG. Really close knit group of girls, all adorable.

Delta Delta Delta: More of a party rep. They are very diverse; as in many different races AND many different personalities. I love this about them because they are very hard to stereotype and as long as you’re easy to talk to, you’ll fit right in.

Kappa Alpha Theta: Also diverse, not as much as Tri Delt in my opinion. I really don’t know too much about them other than the few freshmen I met. Met a lot of athletes when I rushed, though, so you can say they are kind of sporty. Fun to hang out with.

Alpha Phi: FOR FRESHMAN, who only have stereotypes to go on, one of the least sought after chapters. This is really unfortunate though, because this is honestly one of my favorite sororities. All the girls I’ve met are really down to earth and fun, and all love their sorority.

Gamma Phi Beta: once again, FOR FRESHMAN, Seen as the “bottom” sorority. When I rushed, though, I probably had one of THE best, easiest conversations I’ve had at that sorority. They are all so super sweet, everyone at Pepperdine knows if you meet a Gamma Phi, it will be impossible to hate them (unless you’re one of those stuck up *****es who actually care about “status”).

Like I said before, each sorority is amazing in its own way. Trust the process and trust that you’ll end up where you’re supposed to be. I saw so many girls (myself included) drop out of recruitment and realize that the sorority they blew off was the PERFECT match after all. Good luck to whoever rushes :)

which sororities are okay with rushing juniors?

They have set a certain quota for juniors specifically, so they can be fair to all the juniors who are rushing.

Stereotypes aren’t really that important because they change every year depending on the pledge class and what not. Some sororities at Pepperdine don’t really change like Kappa and PiPhi, but who knows, in a few years it can change.

Pi Beta Phi: Sweet, friendly, and really nice girls. Looked as the “Christian” and “innocent” sorority. People say you end up marrying a Pi Phi, which isn’t a bad thing of course.

Alpha Phi: Known as the chill, down-to-earth girls; as well as “closet drinkers.” Mix of partiers and non-partiers as well. Super outgoing and friendly, all the girls are really passionate about their sorority. Don’t really have much of a stereotype which isn’t necessarily bad.

Kappa Kappa Gamma: Blonde, rich sorority. Really liked their rush theme this year, “Let Them Go Kappa” so so cute. They were all really nice and sweet on the rush floor.

Kappa Alpha Theta: Party sorority, though they’re trying to get rid of that reputation. You can tell by its pledge class this year. Really random mix of girls, some girls had the potential to be a Phi Pi.

Gamma Phi Beta: Laid-back girls, but sadly known as the “fat girl” sorority. They used to be the party sorority couple years back.

Delta Gamma: Mix of partiers and non-partiers. Really outgoing and chill, don’t really have much of stereotype like Alpha Phi which isn’t a bad thing of course.

Delta Delta Delta (Tri-Delt): Diverse group of girls. All super nice and laid-back. It’s probably going to replace Theta as the party sorority judging from its new pledge class. Also known as the Kappa leftovers.

All the sororities at Pepperdine are amazing, because most of the girls at the school are just sweet people! Most of them don’t really have reputations since they are so diverse… Just look for the one with the girls you connect with! But here’s a little of what i know.
Theta: great, not that well known but they seem cool, I think they are the laid back chill type
Tri delt: diverse, mostly crazy partiers but others are sooo sweet. They seem like the independent driven type.
Alpha phi: loud outgoing type, some party some don’t, super friendly. Always a million of them together.
DG: less partiers, really genuine people. They are classy for sure!
Kappa: known for being blonde, rich, and drunk … But they are becoming more diverse
Pi phi: definitely most religious, but you will find religious girls in all sororities. They don’t really party!
GPhi: lower reputation, but some of these girls are the funniest people ever. You just have to get to know them!

They all have extremely gorgeous girls, none of them stand out as having prettier girls. And they are all super nice!! Try to have real conversations on the rush floor to figure out where you fit best. And don’t just rush whatever your friend rushes!

This post includes rankings with new PC’S. Let me first say that Pepperdine Greek life is not as intense as Greek Life at a big school. Yes there are tiers, but a lot of it is up to preference. Also, not every single girl in a top soroity is drop dead gorgeous…this is a small school after all. With that being said, in general, this is what usually is believed to be true.

Top:

Kappa Kappa Gamma: These girls have had the strongest reputation for being top on campus for years. They have a rich, hot blonde stereotype. However, they have leaned away from that stereotype recently, and have some gorgeous girls but also are getting a little more diverse. They intimidate some people, but are nice girls and are one of the most outgoing. They are all cohesive with each other, but there are different niches within each group. It can’t be denied that these girls have a strong presence on campus and nationally on the west coast. If you really care to know, google Pepperdine Kappa Kappa Gamma and read articles about them or look at their tumblr.

Delta Gamma: Really nice girls! They have a different vibe from Kappa, so its almost impossible to compare the two. They are a bit more diverse than Kappa and have a nice mix. These girls are a little more artistic and hipster. You definitely have to be a certain type of girl to fit in with DG. That being said, they are a good group of girls and are very happy and spirited about being DG. There instagram is adorable! They are a little more cliquey than others, but not in a bad way! There are just different groups within each PC that flow better than others.

Middle: (Order shifts so much, no particular ranking)

Pi Phi: This is the one sorority that is upper middle. They are known as having a Christian stereotype, and don’t really party too much in general. However, there are the few exceptions. They are very nice, quality girls overall. Everyone says you marry a pi phi.

Tri Delt: Most diverse on campus, and are very hard to stereotype. They have a great mix of girls.

Theta: Known as the party sorority now, but have had recent pledge classes that tone it down. They are chill and down to earth. Very nice girls.

Alpha Phi: They have improved recently, but overall don’t have too much of a strong rep. They are putting themselves out there more, but can be known as competitive by other sororities.

Bottom:

Gamma Phi Beta: They are all the nicest girls, but not known too much on campus and always have always had small pledge classes.
