pepperdine surroundings

i was just wondering about nearby shopping centers, public transportation services (are places walking distance etc.), restaurants, movies, clubs, theater, etc, and other entertainment possibilities.
and according to collegeboard, Percent of men who join fraternities: 25%
Percent of women who join sororities: 25%
are they a big part of campus life?

Okay, first with public transportation... there is very little. That was one of the things that I was really disappointed in when I came. Pepperdine gave me the impression that they had a shuttle going down to the grocery store all the time, so I didn't have a car first semester. It was awful! I couldn't go anywhere. If you don't have a car, you'll learn to bum rides a lot! It got so bad that my parents realized I needed a car and I had one 2nd semester.

As for things to do in the area... Malibu probably isn't the best place to go shopping unless you have A LOT of excess cash. Santa Monica is about 20 minutes down PCH and there is shopping there. Also, through the canyon about 15 or 20 minutes there are malls and shops. Other entertainment possibilties are at both those locations.

Regarding Greek life... sororities and frats are a big part of campus life, but they are not dominating. For those people involved in Greek life, it is a huge part of their college life, but others could care less. I know a lot of people in each category and they all love their college experiences. I do suggest rushing, though, even if you don't pledge, because you get to meet a lot of people. Also, frats and sororities don't have houses, so that can be a positive or negative for people thinking about rushing.

thank you so much!

I have a few questions to add:
How often does the grocery store shuttle come?
Does Pepperdine have a convenience store on campus?
Since I'm coming from the East Coast - does anyone stay on campus over Thanksgiving?
