Pepperdine University and Religion

Hi all. I recently visited Pepperdine when I went to California last week and I fell in love with it. I decided I want to apply, but that kind of changed a little when I read the supplement on the Common App. The question is: As a Christian university, Pepperdine expresses its Christian principles through all aspects of academic life and administrative policy. The university affirms that truth, having nothing to fear from investigation, should be pursued relentlessly in every discipline. Students, faculty, and staff members of all faith traditions are welcome to become part of the Pepperdine University community. Please tell us a little bit about how faith has influenced your life.

With that said, I am an atheist, so I have no idea how to respond to that. I know that there are people who are not Christian who go there, but they still have some sort of faith whereas I have none. So should I still apply, but say that I have zero religion? Thanks.

Instead of a theistic faith you could talk about what you have faith in in other things I’m having the same problem as you with that question ugh

Hmm that is tricky but I agree with Weemoo you could talk about faith in other things. Faith just means having confidence or trust in something. So just reflect on your life. What’s one thing or person that has kept you going in life? Think about a time you experienced something really sad or rough, what kept you going, what motivated you? It could be a role model, or a belief, or anything. It doesn’t have to be about your religion or non-religion. It just means what keeps you going in life. You can have faith in humankind, a particular academic concept, a moral, value, etc. Maybe it’s simply having faith in yourself or building up faith in yourself or others. I think everyone has something that inspires them to get up in the morning regardless of whether its religiously related or not.

Good luck!!
