My D Got a choice to go to UVA/Echols or VT honors. She wants to be a Vet. She likes UVA campus better. However, I see that VT Vet schools takes in more VT students. I saw the last admission was 23 VT vs 2 UVA. So, which school is a better for Pre-Vet ?

Virginia Tech. It’s no contest. VT has a college of agriculture/life sciences and an excellent animal science department – both are great assets toward gaining acceptance to vet school. UVA has neither.

Yes, VT is definitely the better choice. Because VT has a vet school as well as a bunch of other facilities like the Smithfield breeding center and the Stuart-Alphin Arena and Campbell Equitation Center, she’ll get the opportunity to take a lot of classes that will give her more hands on experience, and she’ll actually be able to have a major like Animal Science with a Pre-vet concentration. My best friend wants to be a vet and went to UVA and is a bio major, but her classes dont really give her much by way of pre-vet. I’m currently pre-vet at VT, and I’ve been able to take classes like Intro Animal Science and Horse Management, and the labs of those have given me and incredible amount of hands on time with all sorts of animals. Also, if she can get involved in undergrad research at the vet school, as well as if she gets involved in the prevet club and such, it’ll help her out immensely with apps.
