Percent to GPA Question

Is above 90% a 4.0 gpa? Also do admission officers look at gpa or percent average?

It’s not that simple. For a school where 90% and above is an A, you have to get above 90% in every single class you take in order to have a 4.0.

If you earned 95% in half of your classes, and 85% in the other half of your classes, your average would be 90%, but your GPA would be 3.5, which would be extremely low for Harvard.

I would imagine admissions officers are more interested in the classes you took and how you did in them. They probably don’t have a magic formula for converting percentage directly into GPA, but I’m sure they would not consider 90% to be a 4.0.

Of course, the curve varies from country to country - from what I understand, in India, a 90% average would be considered phenomenal .

FYI, when surveyed, over half of the Harvard Class of 2018 reported a 4.0 or above unweighted GPA in high school.
