I know Kent's student body is made up of 22% of international applicants. From the stats I've collected, it appears that the BS average of International Applicants is 18% making up the student body. Is this correct? Anyway, if any of you have percentages for various schools, post them up here. It would be good information for all of us international applicants!

This info is readily available on [Boarding School Review](Sort Boarding Schools by Key Criteria) - just set your only two sorting criteria as “percent international” and “endowment.” Then, after the list comes up, click again on “endowment” (at the top of the right-hand column). That will bring up the percentages you want at the schools most discussed on this board.

Since info on BSR is not always accurate, here’re the numbers from a few schools websites:
Andover 9%
Exeter 13%
SPS 18%
Deerfield 12%
Hotchkiss 19%

Note that the way they calculate interational student rate may be slightly different. Some go by citizenship while others count anyone who has a foreign address and non-resident living in the US as international student.

A/E is pretty low considering they attract more International applicants then others. Hotchkiss is surprising - I thought it was more Connecticut/MA people who went there as well as most Mid-Atlantic residents. Well I guess it’s reassuring. Deerfield is also pretty surprising - Don’t a lot of International people go there? SPS is as much as I expected I guess.

Some schools are as high as 25% international. (Emma Willard)

Northfield Mount Hermon is 25% too (BSR). Does anybody know what Lawrenceville and Choate’s is? And Groton’s?

Andover uses US citizenship as the criterion, and maybe that’s why the rate is so low. Deerfield actually “exaggerated” as it counts both people US citizens included living abroad and foreigners living in the US. Hotchkiss only counts students with a foreign address - some of whom may be US citizens, but then it didn’t mention foreign students (or non residents) already living in the US. Not clear on how Exeter and SPS do their calculation.

Preppy, no BSR data please. Otherwise, just post a screen shot of your BSR search result. :)

@DAndrew, can’t find anything on the other schools’ website. Do you know about Lawrenceville’s? Is BSR’s statistic wrong or inaccurate?

Here, from the school website:
And that sounds like they include US citizens living abroad but don’t include foreign students currently attending a school in the US.

^^Oh sorry about the Lawrenceveille stats. That’s for one admission season not for all student body, but you get the idea. As far as I know, L’ville has a higher rate of international students among the top schools. I think it also has higer cost of attendance. (meaning, those international students have to be richer. :))

Yeah, I think Lawrenceville’s tuition is like 45,000 dollars. Groton has been so far the highest I’ve seen - 48,000 dollars. Boarding school is definitely an investment.

“Hotchkiss is surprising - I thought it was more Connecticut/MA people who went there as well as most Mid-Atlantic residents.”

Actually when I visited Hotchkiss, I was told numerous times that they pride themselves on being a “Global School” meaning that they work hard to have students from various countries and various walks of life.

@Polodolly, really? That’s pretty good, and the percentages seem high as well excluding the foreign address/Overseas Americans situation.

@Preppy, L’ville tuition plus mandatory fees adds up to $47540 (not counting the required 1% of tuition for tuition insurance). Groton’s tuition ($48895) is higher but it’s inclusive, so no more madatory fees if I understand it correctly.
