What did 25th-75th percentile mean in standardized tests’ scores?
Half the students scored in this range.
The 25th percentile means 75% of students scored higher than the lower number in the range given. The 75th percentile indicates that 25% of students scored higher than the number given.
Look up the word “percentile”.
It means that the 50% of students in the middle of all the school’s student population scored in that range. If you want to figure out your chances, the general idea is that for a safety, you should be well above the 75th percentile, and the school should have an acceptance rate of at least 50%. For a match, you should be comfortably close to or above the 75th percentile and certainly above the 50th. Ideally, a match school should have an acceptance rate not lower than 30%, but I am erring on the side of caution with that. Reaches are all the rest, or schools with acceptance rates lower than 25%, in my opinion.
