I know it's really early in the year, but second son wants to go to a percussion camp this year and I'm starting to research options. He's too young for Tanglewood or Juilliard, and I'd rather not send him away for the whole summer to Interlochen.
He loves classical percussion, but also really loves complex snare (like those in Vanguard bands...He listens to Drumline and imitates the rhythms). We have Stanford Jazz close by and he might do that as well.
Anyone out there know any good camps? We live in California and I'd LOVE to stay closer to home this summer, but, as usual, we will travel for a good camp.

It's not strictly a percussion camp, but you might check our UOP's summer camp.

Thank you, Roadie Dad!! It looks great!! And it's not too far...
Another option that I found is the Summer Brass Institute in Atherton. Although it is mainly a brass institute for advanced high school and college students, it also features percussion instruction and the coaches are the SFS percussion section. I'm also going to look into the San Francisco Conservatory, although I think Summer West is mainly for strings.

Here's another one:
Sierra Jazz Society

I don't have any experience with the camp, but my S did play with Bill Douglas recently and said he was a great player and a nice guy.

Summer Percussion Workshop : Indiana University Jacobs School of Music

Here's another one week summer program at Indiana U. I think the director ran this program before at the University of Maryland. I don't know anything about the quality of the program and I realize it is not close to where you live, but it may be of interest to someone else.

Sounds great! Thanks!
