Perfect Attendance

For my school, if you go on a field trip or do something related to an EC (that is connected to the school) then you don't get an absence, but that's just my school.

GoldShadow: Not really; many can accomplish it. Vacation shouldn't be schedule during school, anyway -- there are plenty of holidays/long weekends, no? At my school, being gone for a club activity does not count as an absence, so that point is moot. Many don't get sick very often, and if they do, it's very minor (as in my case).

I haven't missed a full day of school in over four years. Are you going to disdain me for that? Do I somehow have no life? Or do I somehow not get out enough? If you're wondering, all vacation time, spontaneous out-of-town trips, and the like haven't occurred during school time, for me. When I'm not there for part of the day, it's usually because of a club trip or a doctor's appointment. I'm amazingly resilient when it comes to getting sick -- I feel a slight pain for a day or two, and then I'm fine.

Now, there have been plenty of times when I could have chosen simply to stay home, often due to sleep deprivation. Have I chosen to do so? No. I've gotten my ass up every day and gone to school, simply because there's no big reason not to. (Not to mention it's already immensely difficult and stressful, much less being behind a day -- that's largely what's driven me.)

So really, you decide. Am I just a freak for being at school almost all the time? Am I obsessive? Over-dedicated? I wouldn't think any of the above, but whatever the case, it doesn't matter a whole lot since my school doesn't give out awards for perfect attendance. =)

This is very good if you plan on going to medical school. You will be very reliable doctor working in places like hospital where there are all sorts of disease running around. They will like you.

I think it's ridiculous and shouldn't be given as an award.

If you've never gotten seriously sick, you're lucky. That doesn't take any skill or dedication. I missed three weeks of school this year because I was hospitalized with a serious case of E. Coli. Does that make me any less of a student?

Also, at my school at least, kids get sick (not hospitalized, but fevers, stomach flues, etc) and come to school anyway. They can't concentrate because they're constantly making trips to the bathroom, and they get everyone else in school sick. In my opinion, it's much more commendable for them to stay home, get better, and not infect everyone else.

To me, it either shows luck or idiocy, neither of which deserve an award.

I see it as one of those neat quirky things, kinda like winning the spelling bee. Won't mean much for a resume, but it's an interesting fact about someone.

or, it shows that people are actually washing their hands (especially if you are doing dirty work in the bathroom or with gf)

I see the legitimacy of the award, because, whether we realize it or not, students often skip school for petty reasons. A student who has chosen not to indulge in such and has, additionally, resisted adversity (sickness, etc.), it's commendable, I find.

I'd kill for perfect attendance. Bad immune system=[. Out for over a week with really bad mono.

Addicted to CC because of being home for so long.

lol, this one nerdy kid last year bragged all the time that he had perfect attendance. so people joked that they should purposefully make him miss a day of school to ruin his record by like puncturing the tires to his car or something hahahaha.

my school doesn't even give a perfect attendance award because it's silly... the last time I went anywhere that gave a perfect attendance award was when I was in elementary school XD good times...

We get an excused absence, but it still goes down on the transcript as a day missed. Last year I had almost 20 (excused absences due to EC trips and other stuff)...it's amazing. o____o

When I taught college, I had a student who had had perfect attendance since kindergarden. The student was extremely diligent and motivated, but stood out for being not the sharpest pencil in the box. That student always comes to mind when I hear about people with lengthy histories of perfect attendance in school.

LMAO I didn't even know high schools gave out that award. But yeah, i read that if you have perfect attendance, Harvard and Stanford will both admit you on a full scholarship.........but if you miss one class you lose it and you're expelled.

In case anyone doesn't get it, Tyler is speaking with tongue firmlly in cheek.
