I'm an international student and I took the following exams:

120 - TOEFL iBT (out of 120)
800 - SAT II Math IIc
800 - SAT II Physics
800 - SAT II Chem
A - AP Computer Science AB
A - AP Calculus BC
A - AP Physics C

My problem is: I know for a fact that I'd score very poorly on the CR section of the SAT I (low-mid 600s), so I don't want to take it (I could ace the TOEFL because it doesn't require pretty much any vocabulary).

Can I get into any top school without the SAT I? I know MIT doesn't require the SAT, but do TOEFL takers have a much lower chance?

"For native English speakers: We require the SAT Reasoning Test with the writing component or the ACT with the writing test. We do not prefer one over the other. In addition, we require two SAT Subject Tests: one in math (level 1 or 2), and one in science (physics, chemistry, or biology e/m). We do not have a preference as to which science you take or which level math you take."

I haven't seen any schools that don't require an SAT score.

@Cerebellum - It depends which country you're from also, but I assume you're not from Aussie/England?

I think, honestly, that your best option is to scour the universities' websites and check their requirements. There are a few SAT-optional schools but I doubt they'd be of interest to you (Smith, Bates)

My native language is Portuguese (I'm Brazilian), so I can use the TOEFL instead of the SAT I for MIT. But I wonder if they'll give it similar value.

Additionally, pretty much all the rest of the schools require the SAT I or the ACT, and I have to apply to everyone.

I think I have no choice but taking the SAT.

Thanks for the replies, guys. They were really appreciated.

Have you considered taking the ACT? It's similar to the SAT but it does not test vocab and its writing section is less painful. The ACT requires a straight-forward argumentative essay (school uniforms: yes or no?) while the SAT essay topics are just... weird.

I'm with B@rlum #8 ^^^^^^^^^
Take a practice ACT test from the official website (ACT.org?) and judge for yourself. You should do well on both math and science to offset lower scores on the other two sections. Having 4, instead of 2 scores to combine is always better odds in my book.

DerDeutscheMann, I think what you meant was... "Sarah Lawrence IS SAT optional."
All the SAT optional colleges are LACs. Its up to you Cerebellum to decide if you wish to attend a LAC or regular university.
