Perfectly acceptable word deleted

Why does the word w i s t f u l become wi****l? We all feel that way sometimes, don’t we? I wasn’t aware that it was an unacceptable emotion.

Probably because the second through sixth letters of that word also appear in a naughty word.

But that doesn’t make sense because there aren’t any spaces or anything to set it off. Hmm let’s try something… wi*l …ss … iamreallywi***l

EDIT: that’s just odd. I guess people may have been trying to get around it by typing random letters around it?

Sorry, but that’s just silly. There are any number of letter combinations that appear in naughty words that don’t get blanked out.

Lots of CC parents are going to be feeling wi****l soon as they send their kids off to college for the first time, so this could become a problem.

stfu (without the asterisks) is frequently used on the internet to abbreviate “shut the * up”. While I am glad CC maintains decorum on these boards, it does seem odd that words containing that sequence of letters are affected.

Now CC members can feel wi*l without being told to *. This sounds like one of those word puzzles, “Name the only word in the English language that contains this sequence…”

Hmmm, back to the drawing board…

Yah that happens to me a lot.

Don’t forget restful! As in, it’s hard to get a restful night’s sleep when you know darn well what’s happening in those dorms.

hmmm…

That seemed to work.

I had that happen to me a while back - I could not for the life of me understand why till someone explained it to me - but i think my word (whatever it was) included those exact letters.

is snafu deleted?

ok no more insubordination for me…

Now I’m embarassed because I initially thought of a REALLY bad word that has that sequence of letters. I’m going to go wash my mind out with soap.
