Having been the drum major of the “Marching Billygoats,” as you call them, I met my husband in the band, and it has not seem to hurt his career as a professor of music composition. It’s still early in his career, but he’s not an outcast, his pieces get played, and he landed a tenure-track position five resumes into the hunt. He doesn’t flaunt the fact that he was in the MOB, it’s not on his CV, but his being married to a former DM is not cause for exclusion from the Serious Musicians Club.

There were several kids from the Shepherd School who were in the MOB. Some of Leone Buyse’s own flute players would join us for games as their schedules allowed. It was mainly a time commitment issue, so that is something that the OP’s son will want to consider. Whether marching bands, or even, horror of horrors, scatter bands, cause leprosy is not.

To join in on the real topic at hand, I am actually the Duchess of Kent.
