Is it possible to major in performance and minor in something that is not music related? I'm looking to major in vocal performance, and I'm beginning to consider minoring in history. Is that possible? How difficult would it be to do that?

Please see my reply to your other post. I think you are operating under some misconceptions. Please read this link:

And read the link posted by RKOpera on your other thread, about ways to study vocal performance.

I am really thinking you should not go to conservatory but should instead attend a liberal arts college or university. You do not have to decide your entire life right now. Pomona, Tufts, Williams, Vassar, Barnard. Or even an Ivy like Columbia (you mentioned), Harvard, Yale or Princeton. Tufts and Harvard have double degree programs with NEC but you can apply after attending for a year. Oberlin, Bard and Lawrence are other possibilities for rich academics with music, and you can start in either the college or the conservatory.

History is a really key subject for opera study. At a conservatory you will have music history, and some history, and at a college or university you will have music history if you major in music, and can take that as an elective if you don’t major in music. You can also take relevant history courses as a major, a minor, or as electives.

I wrote on the other thread that I think you need to make some general decisions on what you want in terms of BA versus BM and environment, look at location, size, vibe that you like, research, and then apply in a way that covers all options that you may want. But relax and stop trying to decide so much in advance. The whole point of these years is to explore and grow and you will interfere with that if you try to plan too much. Let it happen!
