Performing Arts College Fair

Looking for feedback on Performing Arts College Fairs.

We are attending the NACAC fair in NYC in a couple of weeks, I was wondering if your kids thought it was helpful?

Our All-State performance is held at the State Music Association convention and they have a huge exhibition which, along with vendors, includes dozens and dozens of top conservatories and colleges offering extensive music programs.

The opportunity to speak with the reps from these colleges and conservatories was invaluable.
We learned a great deal about the specific schools S1 might be interested in attending, their requirements, audition practices, student life, etc.

I am not familiar with the Fair you mentioned, but would highly recommend attending a function of this type. The information you gather will be beneficial to your decisions.

Glad to hear! The fair is at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in NYC and dozens of schools are scheduled to attend. We are hoping to learn more about some of the programs that we haven’t visited and make a stronger connection with the ones we have.

Thanks again!

Good luck! :)

We went to the one at Interlochen and my D found it mostly useful. If it were more than a couple hours away i wouldn’t bother but it was fall in Michigan and a beautiful drive. She did talk to some reps that peaked her interest and others that because of the rep she lost interest in the school. Some schools sent admissions reps that did not have knowledge of the theatre departments but most did have people that knew about the department. We were disappointed with a couple schools that didn’t show because my D really wanted to talk to a rep from there because she was on the fence about them.

I would suggest bringing address labels with your name and address so you don’t have to write it out several times for more information, however they were getting a little more tech and able to scan a form with your information at some of the other college fairs so you might not need them.

Thank you for your feedback. It sounds like it will be a positive experience from both of your responses. My son received an email with a barcode pass to check in with each school, that should save him some time. Thanks again! :)

My son and I went last year and we will be going this year as well. It was the best thing, other then finding College Confidential, that he has done so far on his hunt for colleges.

Sfield, I think the website is down but you should get a listing of the schools so you can plan out who you wan to chat with. We went a little early, and got a program to make out a list. I found that there were more schools there then were even on the list.

I liked the idea of he labels even if you use the scan thing. With labels my son was able to add a few extra things about himself that the scanned info does not have, like his GPA and some specific acting experience.
Enjoy it.

They are having one in LA! I just found it and registered. Great looking schools with be there! SUNY NYU Tisch, Emerson, Rutgers… yay!

I was able to find the fair guide from last year.
