I am a junior in high school and I am a little confused about the whole "record" thing when applying to colleges. Looking at previous discussions, I saw that the only disciplinary action that goes on the record sent to colleges is criminal activity. Nothing like academic dishonesty, or detention. Could anyone please confirm this issue? Or explain what is actually sent to colleges. Thanks!

It depends on what schools disclose, but they normally mention if you are suspended or have had issues on that level, they don’t write down every time you had lunch detention. I know that there’s a place on the Common App that asks if you ever had a disciplinary violation.

Your counselor is asked for any CommonApp school:

If s/he answers yes to either question, they’ll be asked to explain, and how they choose to address it will also affect how schools view it.

If you’re not applying to a common app school, you may have to see what questions your counselor is asked, if any-- some state unis don’t require anything from the counselor. In addition, at some high schools academic dishonesty and suspensions are also reflected on the student’s academic transcript, which every school will ask for.
