Permanent resident

HI, I'm a permanent resident in state of California and a senior who will apply to in-state/out- of-state colleges. My question is that would I be denied of ANY financial aid because of my status? Please be specific. Thank you.

permanent residents are eligible for aid–I’m a perma resident and have been receiving aid, so as long as you have a SSN and havent broken any laws, I think you’re fine.

Yes you are eligible for aid if you are a permanent US resident. Permanent residents are treated the same as US citizens as far as financial aid is concerned. I assume when you say you are a permanent resident in the state of California that you are a US resident with a green card?

If you are a legal permanent resident (green card status), you are eligible for federally determined (FAFSA) financial aid, and most institutional aid. There are some scholarships that are specifically limited to US citizens. You don’t qualify for those.

If the OOS schools are public, then you may not qualify for much aid because you’re not a resident of THAT state. That isn’t because you’re a green card resident, it’s because you’re not a resident of that state.

For instance, if you apply to UMich, you won’t get the aid you need to cover their high OOS costs because you’re a Calif resident.

However, if your stats are high enough, there are some OOS publics that will give you merit for your stats.
